What are the responsibilities and job description for the Tooling Technician position at 92Techno?
Join our elite maintenance team as a Master Tool and Die Technician, specializing in high-tolerance Plastic Injection Molds. Your primary mission is to ensure zero unplanned downtime by performing expert diagnosis, disassembly, repair, and precision maintenance on complex, multi-cavity injection molds and associated hydraulic and hot runner systems. This role requires a blend of hands-on machining expertise, precision measurement, and critical problem-solving to maintain peak operational efficiency and product quality.
Core Responsibilities & High-Value Duties
- Advanced Tooling Maintenance: Lead the complete tear-down, inspection, cleaning, repair, and reassembly of complex plastic injection molds, strictly adhering to work instructions and company safety standards.
- Hot Runner & Electrical System Expertise: Expertly diagnose, troubleshoot, and repair sophisticated Hot Runner Systems and their associated electrical controls, ensuring optimal material flow and thermal consistency.
- Precision Component Repair: Perform fine tooling adjustments and repairs utilizing specialized techniques, including Laser Welding and bench work, to restore mold components to exacting specifications.
- Hydraulic & Mechanical Systems: Execute high-quality build and repair of all mold-related hydraulic components, including cylinders, manifolds, and high-pressure hosing.
- Preventive Maintenance (PM): Develop and execute a proactive PM schedule for all assigned molds and tooling to minimize catastrophic failures and maximize mold life.
- Quality Assurance & Metrology: Inspect and validate all components utilizing a full range of precision measuring instruments (calipers, micrometers, height gauges, etc.) to verify conformity to blueprints and engineering tolerances.
- Technical Collaboration & Communication: Serve as a key liaison, collaborating with the Engineering Team to identify root causes of tooling issues (critical thinking/troubleshooting) and communicate daily reports and technical findings (MS Outlook).
- Safety & Logistics: Maintain an immaculate and safe work environment. Safely operate heavy equipment, including forklifts and overhead crane rigging, for mold transport and staging.
Minimum Qualifications & Specialized Skills:
- Education: High School Diploma or equivalent.
- Experience: Minimum of 2 years of focused, hands-on experience in high-precision plastic injection mold maintenance and repair.
- Machining & Metals: Strong foundational understanding of mold metals (e.g., specific tool steels) and advanced machining practices related to the mold industry (milling, grinding, turning). CAD experience is a strong plus.
- Technical Documentation: Proficient in blueprint and schematics reading for both mechanical and basic electrical systems.
- System Knowledge: Proven ability to build and repair hydraulic systems (hoses, cylinders, manifolds).
- Soft Skills: Demonstrated ability to maintain focus, manage multiple tasks concurrently, and work collaboratively under pressure.
- Software: Basic proficiency with the Microsoft Office Suite.
