The School Resource Officer (SRO) is a dedicated safety and security professional assigned to a school campus to help maintain a safe, secure, welcoming environment for students, staff, and visitors. Key Responsibilities
- Campus Security o Monitor entrances, hallways, and school grounds to prevent unauthorized access and ensure safety.
- Conduct routine patrols and respond to incidents or suspicious activity. oEnforce school rules and assist in de-escalating conflicts.
- Student and Staff Support o Build positive relationships with students to promote respectful behavior and a safe school culture.
- Support staff in managing disruptive behavior and maintaining order. oServe as a visible, approachable presence during school hours and events.
- Emergency Response o Assist in lockdowns, evacuations, and other emergency procedures.
- Coordinate with local law enforcement and emergency services when needed. oParticipate in safety drills and help train staff on security protocols.
- Be the first responder in cases of security breaches or safety threats
- Reporting and Documentation o Maintain daily activity logs and incident reports.
- Report safety concerns or violations to school administration.
- Collaborate with school leadership on safety planning and improvements.
- High school diploma or equivalent; additional security or safety training required.
- Prior experience in security, public safety, law enforcement, or youth services is a plus.
- Strong communication and interpersonal skills.
- Ability to remain calm and professional in highpressure situations.
- Must pass background checks and meet school district requirements.
- Must maintain an armed security clearance.
- Fulltime or parttime based on school schedule.
- Indoor and outdoor duties in various weather conditions.
- May require standing or walking for extended periods.
