Position Summary
The Small Business Lender / Relationship Manager is responsible for growing the small business lending portfolio and expanding 7 17 Credit Union’s presence in the communities we serve. This role focuses on identifying and building relationships with small business owners, developing lending opportunities, and providing customized financing solutions.
The ideal candidate will bring a strong understanding of small business lending, credit analysis, and relationship management, along with a proactive approach to community and member engagement.
Key Responsibilities
Small Business Development
- Develop and manage small business lending relationships (loan amounts under $150,000).
- Actively work referrals from internal departments (Teleservices, Commercial, Branches, etc.) and generate new leads through outreach.
- Attend and participate in local business organizations, including the Warren-Youngstown Chamber of Commerce, to identify and connect with new businesses.
- Conduct outreach calls with existing small business members to assess needs, build rapport, and schedule follow-up discussions.
- Accurately complete loan applications, collect financial documentation (tax returns, statements, quotes, etc.), and prepare loan packages for underwriting.
- Assist with loan closings and ensure all documents are properly completed and signed.
- Cross-sell additional business products and services to meet member needs and strengthen relationships.
Small Business Credit Underwriting
- Gather and analyze financial documentation for small business loan requests ($150,000 or less).
- Prepare and present credit recommendations and assist commercial lenders with underwriting as needed.
- Perform credit analysis, including cash flow (global), collateral, management assessments, and risk ratings.
- Understand and utilize the Credit Union’s lending platform (currently Credit Quest).
- Prepare adverse action notices when applicable and ensure compliance with lending regulations.

Qualifications
Education:
- High school diploma or equivalent required.
Experience:
- Minimum of 3 years of experience in commercial or small business lending and underwriting.
- Knowledge of small business operations, financial statements, and business banking practices.
- Ability to review and interpret tax returns.
Skills & Abilities:
- Strong customer service and relationship-building skills.
- Excellent communication, problem-solving, and organizational abilities.
- Sound judgment, professionalism, and the ability to work independently.
- Attention to detail, initiative, and ability to manage multiple priorities.
- Proficient in Microsoft Office and lending software systems.
Additional Requirements
- Must maintain confidentiality of member information and Credit Union business.
- Ability to travel locally and regionally for member and community engagement.
- Must be able to sit, stand, walk, and occasionally lift up to 20 pounds.
