SUMMARY:
The 5th Street Public Market is known in the community for providing a consistently active, visually engaging, family friendly, fun environment. With annual events and constant activation of the different public spaces with the Market, it is the #1 visitor destination and Eugene’s gathering place.
The Events Assistant helps create a fun, family-friendly holiday experience at the 5th Street Public Market. This position primarily supports Santa photo operations, holiday activations, and general event setup/takedown throughout the season. We're looking for someone friendly, reliable, and detail-oriented who enjoys working with families and helping create memorable holiday moments.
DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
Events Assistant
- Support set-up, operation, and breakdown of Santa photo area and holiday events.
- Greet guests, assist with line flow, and provide excellent customer service.
- Help manage props, décor, signage, and event materials.
- Assist with basic communication between staff, vendors, and Market departments during events.
- Troubleshoot simple issues onsite and help keep events running smoothly.
- Assist with light administrative/event tasks as needed (organizing supplies, prepping materials, etc.).
- Follow all safety and health guidelines.
Qualifications
- Customer service experience preferred; comfort interacting with families and children.
- Reliable, friendly, and able to work independently or as part of a small team.
- Able to work evenings, weekends, and holiday hours.
- Comfortable working outdoors in varying weather.
- Able to lift/move up to 30–50 lbs and stand for extended periods.
- Strong communication, problem-solving, and organizational skills.
Work Environment & Physical Needs
This role includes indoor and outdoor work, extended standing, occasional lifting, and working in busy, high-energy environments.
