JOB DESCRIPTION
POSITION TITLE: Educational Assistant
REPORTS TO: Building Principal WORK DAYS: Student Days
GENERAL DESCRIPTION:
The primary focus of this position is to supervise and support students assigned to in-school suspension (ISS) within a classroom setting. When no students are serving ISS, the Educational Assistant (EA) will perform duties consistent with the traditional EA role, supporting classroom instruction, student learning, and any other duties assigned by the principal that fall within the EA’s role.
ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS:
In-School Suspension (Primary Focus):
- Supervises students assigned to in-school suspension in a structured classroom environment.
- Ensures a quiet, safe, orderly, and productive atmosphere aligned with school expectations.
- Provides students with classwork from teachers and supports them in completing assignments.
- Reinforces school rules, behavior expectations, and restorative practices as appropriate.
- Communicates with building administrators regarding student behavior, needs, and progress.
General EA Responsibilities (when ISS students are not assigned):
- Provides classroom support to teachers and students.
- Works with students individually or in small groups to reinforce learning.
- Assists with transitions, supervision (recess, hallways, restroom), and general student support.
- Helps with instructional tasks such as preparing materials, assisting with work
- Assists during classroom activities, breakfast/lunch, field trips, and school events.
- Provides technology and library support as directed.
WORKING ENVIRONMENT/CONDITIONS:
- This position will work primarily in the classroom; however, it may involve working in a variety of settings including classrooms and outdoors and may experience heat or cold extremes as well as fumes, odors, dust; noise levels may range from moderate to loud.

QUALIFICATIONS:
- Valid driver’s license
- 18 years of age or more
- Knowledge of office procedures, computer experience, and experience working with children.
- Demonstrates a sincere desire to aid all students.
- Good health, high moral character, and good attendance record.
- College credits in education are preferred.
Education: High School Diploma minimum Required Testing: None Specified
Continuing Educational Training: None required
Certificate & Licenses: Sixty hours College credit preferred
