PRODUCTION BREWER
Fifty West Brewing Company | Cincinnati, Ohio
Reports to: Production Management
Position Type: Full-Time
Starting Pay: $21/hour
Location: 7605 Wooster Pike, Cincinnati, OH 45227
THE SHORT VERSION
Fifty West Brewing Company is looking for an experienced brewer who wants to be involved in every aspect of brewery production.
We're seeking someone with at least two years of professional brewing experience who can confidently execute brewhouse and cellar operations, while also being willing to roll up their sleeves and support packaging, equipment maintenance, warehouse operations, and whatever else the production schedule requires.
This isn't a position with a fixed division of responsibilities. Some weeks will require more time brewing and cellaring, while others will involve more packaging and production support. We're looking for a team player who understands that making great beer means contributing to the entire process, from raw ingredients to finished product.
You bring the brewing experience and technical foundation. We'll train you on our specific packaging equipment and production systems.
WHAT YOU'LL DO
Brewing & Cellaring
- Independently execute all stages of brewing, including milling, mashing, lautering, boiling, wort production, and knockout.
- Operate our 20 BBL, three-vessel brewhouse and follow established recipes and production specifications.
- Manage fermentation, yeast handling, clarification, transfers, carbonation, and bright beer operations.
- Perform CIP and sanitation of brewhouse, cellar tanks, and associated equipment.
- Maintain accurate brewing, cellaring, and production records.
- Conduct quality checks and sensory evaluations to ensure product consistency.
Packaging Operations
- Support and, once trained, operate our canning and kegging equipment.
- Assist with packaging line setup, operation, changeovers, and cleaning.
- Perform in-process quality checks, including fill weights, seam inspections, dissolved oxygen testing, and lot-code verification.
- Wash, inspect, fill, and prepare kegs for distribution.
- Assist with packing, palletizing, labeling, and staging finished products.
- Help troubleshoot packaging equipment and maintain efficient production runs.
Equipment & Facility Operations
- Perform routine preventative maintenance and assist with equipment repairs.
- Troubleshoot mechanical issues throughout the production facility.
- Safely operate pumps, valves, hoses, fittings, and production equipment.
- Maintain clean, safe, and organized production areas.
- Support general facility maintenance and improvement projects.
Warehouse & Distribution
- Assist with receiving, organizing, and tracking raw materials and finished goods.
- Operate forklifts and pallet jacks after appropriate training and authorization.
- Help prepare and load distributor orders and taproom transfers.
- Maintain accurate inventory records and proper product rotation.
Production Team Responsibilities
- Follow daily assignments established by production management and the production schedule.
- Move between brewing, cellaring, packaging, and other operational responsibilities as production needs change.
- Communicate delays, equipment issues, quality concerns, and deviations from the schedule promptly.
- Participate in production meetings and contribute to continuous improvement.
- Take ownership of assigned work while remaining flexible and willing to support teammates throughout the facility.
