About the Role
We are seeking a highly motivated Land Research Specialist to support the management and protection of company-owned lands and land rights within a regulated utility environment.
This position plays a critical role in handling complex real estate matters, negotiating lease and license agreements, supporting litigation oversight, and ensuring compliance with applicable real estate laws and regulations.
The ideal candidate brings strong real estate legal knowledge, excellent negotiation skills, and the ability to work collaboratively across internal teams and external stakeholders.
Key Responsibilities
Land & Property Management

Assist in the management of the Company’s fee-owned lands

Support protection and enforcement of Company land rights

Assist in managing complex surveillance matters involving Company lands

Support property remediation and restoration efforts
-
Assist with recovery efforts from responsible third parties
Legal Drafting & Negotiation
-
Negotiate and draft complex commercial lease and license agreements
-
Draft and revise legal provisions within governmental and non-profit leases/licenses
-
Negotiate with external counsel representing commercial lessees/licensees
-
Draft legal documents granting temporary access rights to third parties
-
Review and revise legal documentation to protect Company interests
Litigation & Regulatory Support

Assist with oversight of litigated matters involving Company lands and land rights

Review and analyze proposed legislation impacting landholdings

Ensure compliance with real estate laws, rules, and regulations
Required Qualifications

Bachelor’s Degree (Required)

Strong knowledge of real estate laws, practices, and principles

Demonstrated ability to think strategically and execute tactically

Strong interpersonal and negotiation skills

Ability to balance legal, ethical, and business considerations

Strong teamwork and collaboration skills

Preferred Qualifications

Juris Doctor (JD) from an ABA-accredited law school

Active member of the Alabama State Bar

Minimum 5 years of legal experience

Prior experience in real estate litigation (strongly preferred)
