Responsibilities
- Conduct thorough patient assessments to evaluate substance use history, mental health status, and overall treatment needs.
- Develop personalized treatment plans incorporating evidence-based practices such as cognitive behavioral therapy (CBT), motivational interviewing, and behavioral therapy.
- Facilitate individual and group counseling sessions focused on addiction recovery, mental health management, and relapse prevention.
- Implement crisis intervention strategies to support clients experiencing acute emotional or behavioral distress.
- Provide family and child counseling when appropriate, promoting healthy communication and support systems.
- Maintain accurate medical documentation in compliance with HIPAA regulations, including progress notes, treatment plans, and clinical records.
- Collaborate with multidisciplinary teams to coordinate care plans, case management efforts, and community resources.
- Conduct diagnostic evaluations using ICD-9/10 coding systems to ensure precise diagnosis and tailored treatment approaches.
- Engage in ongoing research and data collection efforts to improve clinical practices and treatment outcomes.
- Participate in training related to addiction medicine, mental health counseling, trauma-informed care (including PTSD), and behavior management techniques.
- Ensure adherence to all legal and ethical standards related to patient care, confidentiality, and medical documentation.
Skills
- Strong expertise in psychotherapy modalities such as cognitive behavioral therapy (CBT), applied behavior analysis (ABA), and behavioral health interventions.
- Proficiency in motivational interviewing techniques to foster client engagement and motivation for change.
- Experience in child & family counseling, home & community care settings, hospital environments, and crisis management scenarios.
- Knowledge of medical terminology, ICD coding systems (ICD-9/10), HIPAA compliance, and medical records management.
- Skilled in patient care assessment, intake procedures, case management, and diagnostic evaluation processes.
- Ability to handle crisis situations effectively through crisis intervention strategies and crisis management skills.
- Familiarity with addiction counseling principles within behavioral health frameworks; experience with addiction medicine is a plus.
- Competence in group therapy facilitation and social work practices aimed at supporting recovery journeys.
- Experience with data collection for clinical research purposes; understanding of CPT coding for billing purposes is advantageous.
- Strong communication skills coupled with a compassionate approach to patient-centered care; ability to work collaboratively within multidisciplinary teams.
