Description
St. John the Evangelist is a vibrant and welcoming parish community of more than 1,000 households, enriched by a thriving parish school that serves as a center for faith, learning, and fellowship. We are currently seeking a Choir Director who is an experienced energetic person who will bring the liturgy to life through music.
Major Duties and Responsibilities
- Assures that music is provided for parish liturgies by selecting music as well as recruiting and scheduling musicians for the Saturday 5pm and Sunday 8:30 am masses as well as some Holy Days.
- Serve as consultant to the pastoral staff and families for appropriate music for marriage and funeral liturgy.
- Coordinate Cantors and Accompanists for Masses, Funerals and Weddings when needed.
- Direct the choir and conduct regular rehearsals of choirs according to the requirements of the liturgical calendar.
- Review and select music repertoire and arrangements.
- Provide music skill assessment for all volunteers.
- Performs other duties in the music field, as determined in consultation with the Pastor.
Qualifications
Required Experience
- Bachelors or Master’s Degree in Music
- Experience in Leading music programs at Catholic Parishes
- Competence in choral directing and keyboard performance
- Ability to work effectively with different groups of people
- Ability to offer some vocal training for Choir members
Any offered salary is determined based on internal equity, internal salary ranges, market data, applicant’s skills and prior relevant experience, certain degrees and certifications.
