Recreation Specialist (emphasis in Fitness)

The City of Crestwood Parks and Recreation Department is seeking qualified applicants for the position of Recreation Specialist, with an emphasis in Fitness. The ideal applicant should thrive in a collaborative team setting. This position plays a vital role in the transition from the current community center to the new facility set to open in 2026. Responsibilities will include the planning, promotion, and implementation of a variety of fitness, wellness, and recreational programs, including group exercise classes, personal training, fitness center management, member engagement activities, health education workshops, and special events. The selected candidate will be responsible for recruiting, training, and supervising recreation assistants, fitness attendants, group exercise instructors, personal trainers, and other wellness staff at the new center, as well as enhancing existing fitness programs and supporting ongoing initiatives. Additionally, this position will contribute to the development of a fitness operations budget for the upcoming Community Center.
Starting salary: $50,182-52,691
Benefits include 11 ½ paid holidays, sick and vacation time, health, dental, vision and life Insurance, and retirement benefits (including LAGERS).
Education, qualifications and experience required
Bachelor's degree in parks and recreation, sports management, exercise science, physical education or related field required; three years supervisory level experience; two-years developing and/or managing fitness and wellness programs; CPR/AED and first aid certification required. Must obtain AFAA and/or ACSM within one year of employment.
