3Fish is seeking a motivated recent graduate or graduating senior interested in Food Science, Food Technology, Culinary Science, or a related field to join our Research & Development team for a hands-on professional internship experience.
This internship is designed to provide real-world exposure to applied food science within a fast-paced food manufacturing environment. Interns will work directly with our R&D team while gaining valuable cross-functional experience in production, food safety, quality systems, and product commercialization.
This is not a classroom-based or observation-only internship. Interns will actively participate in projects, product development activities, process evaluations, and operational learning experiences intended to prepare candidates for future careers in the food industry.
What You’ll Learn
· Product development from concept through production
· Recipe scaling and commercial production processes
· Food safety systems, including HACCP principles
· Regulatory and labeling requirements
· USDA and FDA operational differences
· Costing analysis and technology used in food manufacturing
· Cross-functional collaboration between R&D, Production, and Quality Assurance
· Supplier relationships and retail product placement
Internship Experience

Qualifications
· Be a junior or senior pursuing a degree in Food Science, Food Technology, Culinary Arts, Biology, Chemistry, or a related discipline
· Be pursuing or have completed coursework in Food Science, Food Technology, Culinary Arts, Biology, Chemistry, or a related field
· Have a genuine passion for food, product development, and the food industry
· Be comfortable working in kitchen and food production environments
· Possess strong organizational and communication skills
· Demonstrate curiosity, initiative, and problem-solving ability
· Must be able to commit to a full-time internship schedule for the duration of the program
· Must be comfortable working in both office and production environments, including kitchen and food manufacturing areas
Schedule & Program Details
· Internship duration of approximately 3 to 6 months
· Full-time internship with an expected minimum commitment of 40 hours per week
· Schedule flexibility may vary depending on project demands, production schedules, and operational exposure opportunities
· Approximately 400 total program hours, depending on internship duration
· Based in Gastonia, North Carolina
· This internship is intended as a professional development and pipeline opportunity and is not structured as a school credit program
Supervision
The intern will report directly to the R&D Manager, who will coordinate weekly schedules, assignments, and developmental opportunities throughout the program.
