What are the responsibilities and job description for the Production Manager position at 1820 Brands?
Company: 1820 Brands
Location: Portland, ME
Compensation: $60,000/year 401k, Health, Dental, & Vision
About Us: At 1820 Brands, we are innovating across the entire beverage spectrum. Our diverse portfolio includes traditional craft beer, craft non-alcoholic (NA) brews, Ready-to-Drink (RTD) cocktails, and cutting-edge hemp-derived beverages. We operate in a fast-paced, dynamic environment where quality and adaptability are everything. We are looking for a dedicated Production Manager who understands the machinery just as well as the liquids we put in the cans.
The Role: We are seeking a Production Manager with a strong mechanical background. Because we produce a wide variety of beverages—our lines require frequent changeovers and precise mechanical oversight. You will oversee the daily production cycle and manage our floor team, but you will also be the one with a wrench in hand when a seamer drifts out of spec, a filler jams, or a pump loses pressure.
Key Responsibilities:
- Total Maintenance Ownership: Develop, implement, and personally execute the preventative maintenance schedules for all packaging and production machinery. Know when to fix it in-house and when to call in specialized external technicians.
- Mechanical Troubleshooting & Changeovers: Act as the primary mechanic on the floor. Lead equipment changeovers between different product lines (Beer, NA, RTD, Hemp) and troubleshoot canning lines, seamers, fillers, and pumps to eliminate downtime.
- Floor Leadership: Manage, train, and schedule the production operators to ensure daily output targets are met safely and efficiently across all beverage categories.
- Quality & Safety: Ensure strict adherence to GMPs, OSHA safety standards, and specialized food safety protocols required for our diverse product range.
- Process Improvement: Continuously monitor line efficiency (OEE), identify mechanical bottlenecks, and rebuild or upgrade parts to improve yield and reduce waste.
What You Bring (Requirements):
- Heavy Mechanical Aptitude: You are a mechanic at heart. Hands-on, wrench-turning experience with beverage packaging machinery (especially canning lines/seamers), pneumatics, hydraulics, and pumps is an absolute must.
- Production Experience: 3 years in a manufacturing environment (Brewing, Beverage, or Liquid Packaging experience is highly preferred).
- Adaptability: Experience or willingness to learn the nuances of packaging different liquid types (carbonated vs. still, traditional vs. infused).
- Independent Problem-Solving: You don't wait for a maintenance ticket to get resolved; you resolve it yourself. You can think on your feet, diagnose mechanical issues quickly, and keep the line moving safely.
- Leadership Skills: Proven ability to manage, motivate, and develop a team of operators while balancing your mechanical duties.
Why Join Us?
- Base salary of $60,000/year.
- Comprehensive Health, Dental, and Vision insurance.
- 401k retirement plan.
- The opportunity to take true ownership of a facility and work with a cutting-edge portfolio of traditional and innovative beverages.
