JOB SUMMARY

To perform highly responsible duties of recording and transcribing verbatim records of judicial and jury trials, conferences, hearings or any other court proceedings where a record is required. Fully responsible for the preparation of a complete and accurate record of proceedings which may involve highly technical terminology used in a number of different fields. Work is performed in accordance with procedures established by the Court and is reviewed by the reporter upon completion for accuracy and content. Work is performed under the direction of the judge and judicial administrator, and performance is evaluated on the basis of feedback from individuals served, coworkers, and from direct observation.

REPRESENTATIVE DUTIES

At a very high rate of speed, takes verbatim testimony, arguments of counsel, and rulings of the Court, by certifiable methods at trials, hearings, conferences, or any other court proceedings where a record is required; transcribes notes of such proceedings; edits and assembles final record in a format approved and ordered by the Louisiana Supreme Court.

* Files all transcripts in a timely manner and in accordance with the laws of the State of Louisiana.

* Insures that all equipment used by the reporter in court and the office is in proper working order.

* Reviews new statutes or changes in the law or rules of court that apply to court reporting and implements and complies with all requirements.

* All other responsibilities that come with the recording and transcribing of court proceedings according to court policy

QUALIFICATIONS AND SKILLS

EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE GUIDELINES

Education/Training:

Must be certified with the Louisiana Board of Examiners of Certified Shorthand Reporters in one of the following methods: stenotype or stenomask.

Must comply with the requirements of all applicable laws, regulations, court rules, policies and procedures

Experience not necessary but preferred.

Must have experience using Zoom and ability to perform Court reporting duties using Zoom.

PHYSICAL DEMANDS AND WORKING ENVIRONMENT

Environment: Work is performed primarily a courtroom and office setting. Maintain confidentiality of matters handled on a day-to-day basis. When needed, will have to work in various courtrooms within the 16th Judicial District, including St. Martinville, New Iberia and Franklin. Must be able to work a regular Monday through Friday court schedule with occasional overtime.

Physical: Primary functions require sufficient physical ability and mobility to work in an office setting; to sit for long periods of time; to occasionally stoop, bend, kneel, crouch, reach, and twist; to lift, carry, push, and/or pull light to moderate amounts of weight (25 lbs.); to operate office equipment requiring repetitive hand movement and fine coordination including use of a computer keyboard; and to verbally communicate to exchange information.
