Summary Performs a variety of high-risk obstetric ultrasound examinations and procedures using the established AIUM protocols with moderate degree of individual judgment based on the clinical circumstances and patient conditions. Performs clinical assessment, diagnostic sonography examinations, and synthesizes information with patient's medical history. Job Duties Records anatomical, pathological and/or physiological data for interpretation by a physician. Maintains electronic patient charts and records to processes sonographic data and other pertinent observations made during the sonogram. Maintains patient information in the ultrasound documentation/reporting system, image storage system, and EMR. Obtains pertinent medical history from record prior to exams and prepares preliminary reports as requested by the physician. Uses independent judgement during the sonographic exam to accurately differentiate between normal and pathologic findings. Selects appropriate transducers, follows guidelines for probe handling and adjusts equipment to optimize the images utilizing the available applications and options on the ultrasound machine, based on fetal position, anatomy, and depth of tissue characteristics. Recognizes equipment malfunctions and takes corrective action when possible. Explains medical studies and procedures to patients so they are well informed regarding the examination. Minimum Qualifications High School Diploma/GED and Technical School Diploma Ultrasonography or Associate’s Degree Diagnostic Medical Sonography Ability to maintain compliance with regulatory agencies. Ability to implement advanced imaging techniques when medically applicable (3D/4D). Knowledge of various sonography equipment and related applications. Recommends changes to improve efficiency, workflows, and/or patient safety. Ability to independently guide provider for invasive procedures. Experience performing detailed first trimester exams, low risk exams, detailed fetal anatomy surveys and guidance of chorionic villus sampling and amniocentesis procedures. BLS - Basic Life Support AHA - American Heart Association within 90 Days and RDMS-OB/GYN - Registered Diagnostic Medical Sonographer - Obstetrics and Gynecology (OB/GYN) - American Registry for Diagnostic Medical Sonography Upon Hire Preferred Qualifications Bachelor’s Degree in healthcare or business discipline. 3 years experience performing 3D/4D examinations and extended cardiac views. Physical Demands Lift and carry 40-50 lbs. Examples: Push/pull patients on bed, stretcher (requires 29 lbs. push force), lateral transfers up to 50 lbs. of the patient's weight. Frequent to continuous standing/walking. Patient transporters can walk 8-10 miles per shift. *Patient care providers may be required to perform activities specific to their role including kneeling, bending, squatting and performing CPR.
