Vanderbilt University Medical Center is seeking to hire a Laboratory Manager, whom will report to the Associate Vice President, Director’s Administration, and whom will have responsibility for managing 3 key areas in the laboratory, soon to be 4 areas as part of the expansion with our Laboratory Transformation Project and move to the new MetroCenter Vanderbilt Laboratory Services lab.

Additional responsibilities include providing direction for the Diagnostic Laboratory Team Leader (DLTL) Supervisors in each of the individual laboratories and serves as a key resource to integrate clinical activities and optimize patient care. With the lab leadership team, defines clinical performance standards and quality measures, monitors actual performance and when necessary, identifies problems and initiates corrective actions. Manages staff, operating budget and participates in capital budget.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES:
  • Monitors and coordinates programs and actions within areas of responsibility; has overall fiscal accountability for sections(s).
  • Develops work goals and objectives based on interpretation of organization plans and forecasts; plans to achieve goals or establish priorities through appropriate budgeting and program development.
  • Monitors payroll reports for overtime and FlexPTO as well as conducts performance appraisals.
  • The responsibilities listed are a general overview of the position and additional duties may be assigned.

Position qualifications:
Required:
  • Successful completion of CAHEA or NAACLS accredited Medical Technology program or BS from accredited institution with major in biological, chemical, physical, or clinical laboratory science and ASCP technologist generalist or categorical certification or equivalent certification; or equivalent education and experience per CLIA and TN Medical Laboratory Board (1200-06-01-.22)for personnel performing high complexity testing. Licensed Medical Laboratory Supervisor (Required). Allowed, 6 months to obtain categorical equivalent Medical Technologist Supervisor licensure in the state of Tennessee. Considered in training, until licensure obtained.
  • Bachelor's Degree (or equivalent experience) from accredited institution (Required)
  • 6 years relevant experience (Required)

Preferred:
  • Prior diagnostic labs experience, directly managing 20 direct reports
  • Prior diagnostic labs experience in Specimen Receiving and Specimen Processing (Specimen Management Services), Reference or SendOuts, and Contact Center lab areas in an Academic Medical Center Enterprise
  • MLS (ASCP or AMT) Certification and state of Tennessee Medical Technologist license
  • Medical Technologist - Supervisor license in the state of Tennessee (TN)
