Under general supervision, installs, tests, trouble shoots, and maintains substation and generating facility systems, related instruments and controls. Provides assistance to customers requesting help in the installation, maintenance and operation of electrical equipment and substations. Works on and around energized circuits. May perform duties of Substation Electrician Journeyman and Utility Operator when required and sufficiently trained.
Performs all work in a safe manner. Complies with all applicable safety rules, regulations and procedures. Performs all work that they are qualified and trained to do in a manner to protect themselves, their fellow employees and the public from injury. - Installs, tests, and maintains transmission and distribution metering, control, and relaying systems. Installs, tests and maintains transmission and distribution supervisory control equipment (RTU’s), telemetering systems, load control equipment, line carrier, tone equipment, and microwave equipment where applicable. - Maintains proficiency in and uses computers, which includes desktop, laptop, hand-held, and mobile data terminals, in the performance of duties. - Has knowledge of computer software programs. Creates and/or maintains computer software for programming and interrogating all types of equipment. - Leads, trains and instructs employees in their work. - Reads and interprets drawings, wiring diagrams, specifications, manufacturer’s instructions and work orders pertaining to substation, transmission and distribution circuit construction and maintenance. Makes field revisions and notes on drawings as needed.
