ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS
DESIGN
  • Understands design philosophies and current trends throughout the profession, including program, space planning and design strategies, as well as overall building design concepts.
  • Understands design software technology and project delivery methods.
  • Understands and responds to the technical implications of design decisions.
  • Promotes firm and project goals of excellence in design, execution and sustainability.
  • Understands color and materials concepts and FF&E design strategies.
TECHNICAL
  • Understands and is able to perform all administrative and management tasks associated with each phase of the design and construction process.
  • Understands and is able to develop preliminary project schedules, budgets and project team work plans.
MANAGEMENT
  • Defines, monitors and maintains control of the scope of work and scope of services for assigned projects, including project budget, schedule and work plan.
  • Primary coordinator of all direct communication between the client and firm.
  • Ensures timely resolution of client concerns and management of the firm's business issues.
  • Responsible for the complete integration of design and technical aspects of the project.
  • Responsible for the clear and timely communication of information to the project team and ensures compliance with the project team's goals.
  • Monitors performance of the project team to ensure attainment of the firm's quality standards and design goals.
  • Establishes, maintains and documents regular project related meetings; including client, internal team and consultant meetings.
  • Initiates, documents and maintains project set-up, project process and filing procedures, work authorizations, invoicing/receivables, assisting accounting in timely distribution of invoices and payment of receivables.
  • Ensures the orderly and complete preparation, distribution, and retention of all written project records.
  • Considers risk management by monitoring client demands and technical issues in a timely manner to minimize liability.
  • Responsible for the orderly close-out of projects; including contractual requirements.
  • Coordinates staffing resources with Managing Director.
  • Ensures a positive work atmosphere and assists in supporting the development and retention of quality staff; including training/development/mentoring.
  • Develops and maintains successful client relationships.
BUSINESS DEVELOPMENT / CLIENT RELATIONSHIP
  • Thoroughly understands client challenges and demonstrates problem solving creativity
  • Develops positive relationships with key officers of client and other client personnel
  • Maintains frequent contact at the highest possible level in the client organization
  • Ability to inspire client's confidence in professional ability and overall client services.
  • Demonstrates ability of "closing the sale."
  • Proactively seeks out new business through established client relations and active participation in the industry.
ESSENTIAL JOB REQUIREMENTS
EDUCATION
  • Professional degree in Interior Design, Architecture or related discipline.
  • Advanced professional degree in Interior Design, Architecture or related discipline recommended.
EXPERIENCE
  • Minimum 15 years' professional experience demonstrating increasing responsibility for teams and projects.
  • NCIDQ or NCARB Required.
  • Exceptional knowledge of project design process, construction documentation, programming, space planning, furniture specifications as well as materials and finishes.
  • Strong project budgeting and contract negotiation skills.
  • Strong working relationships with clients and consultants.
  • Strong project management software skills.
  • Experience in directing, mentoring and coordinating project teams.
  • Collaborative and professional work ethic.
  • Strong interpersonal, verbal, listening, writing and client presentation skills.
  • LEED AP or within 6 months of hire.
