About the opportunity

Waypoint has a fabulous learning opportunity for a Bachelor's Level Intern in our Runaway Youth Social Work Program for the Fall of 2024. Although this is an unpaid internship, you will earn credits toward your college degree. In this internship opportunity at our Rochester Drop In Center you will support youth ages 12-24 who are struggling to have their basic needs met and who are experiencing some form of housing instability/homelessness. Youth/Young Adults (YYA) come to the drop-in to access a food pantry, clothing closet, free laundry facilities, computers with internet access, phones, showers, groups, pro-social activities, and/or care coordination supports.

Responsibilities May Include::

· To assist youth in accessing our services

· To co-create a youth centric environment that is psychology safe

· To build appropriate working relationships with the young people that come into the center

· To co-facilitate therapeutic, supportive, and other pro-social groups

· To provide supportive counseling sessions to youth who desire these one-on-one services

· To provide care coordination services to youth who desire these services

Qualifications:

• You must be motivated and passionate about our mission and purpose.
• Ability to work at least 15-20 hours per week for 10-12 weeks.
• Must be in process of Bachelor's degree or Masters Degree in Social Work (or related field).
• 2 years related experience working with high risk youth
• Ability to collaborate with peers, Leadership and clients. Seek out counsel when needed.
• Ability to demonstrate initiative, independence and discretion
• Ability to respect clients from a variety of backgrounds and situations.
• Ability to clearly communicate over the phone, in writing, and in person.
• Ability to keep good records and to provide counseling sessions for sometimes complex cases
• Must pass a criminal record check, with no history of abuse, neglect or exploitation and a motor vehicle check.
• Must have a valid driver's license and auto insurance that meets agency minimum liability coverage of $50,000/$100,000.
