Summary:

The Mission of the Idaho Department of Correction (IDOC) is to create a model correctional system that provides equitable access to programming and opportunities that reflect a community experience, foster connections, and restore victims of crime. The Correctional Specialist Supervisor staff ensure security of the facility by monitoring, supervising and instructing residents in food handling, preparation, service, sanitation, safety, and storage. Additionally, a CSS supervises food service staff and functions as a shift supervisor ensuring that meals are prepared timely and according to planned menus.

Responsibilities:

  • Interview, hire, determine work priorities, problem-solve, and evaluate performance of staff and/or residents.
  • Schedule work time for shift coverage.
  • Ensure compliance with health, safety, sanitation, and security regulations.
  • Ensure security of the facility by monitoring resident workers, observing feedings, and by searching residents and common areas.
  • Prepare reports and correspondence.
  • Review logs and documentation for proper completion.
  • Maintain inventory of food, supplies, keys, knives, and equipment, and order food and related kitchen items.
  • Recommend procedures for kitchen operations in line with laws, rules, regulations, and Department policies and directives.
  • Ensure the efficiency and operational effectiveness of the facility food service operations per guidelines.
  • Prepare and serve food in accordance with Idaho Food Code and standardized recipe and facility guidelines.

Minimum Qualifications:

  • Some knowledge of supervisory practices. This is typically gained by completion of a training class or seminar (8 or more hours, e.g. Pre-Supervisor) specifically covering supervisory practices AND at least 6 months of full-time work experience that involved work assignment, direction and monitoring of staff, OR at least 1 year of lead-work or supervisory experience that involved work assignment, direction, and monitoring of staff. Supervision of incarcerated individuals does NOT qualify.
  • Some knowledge of sanitation and safe food handling practices of an institutional food service operation. This is typically gained by certification from a food protection manager certification program that is evaluated and listed by a Conference for Food Protection-recognized accrediting agency as conforming to the Conference for Food Protection Standards for Accreditation of Food Protection Manager AND at least six months of full-time work experience in a food service operation OR at least one year of full time work experience in a food service operation where proper sanitation and safe food handling practices were a primary job responsibility.
  • Experience preparing and serving large volumes of food in a restaurant or institutional setting. This is typically gained by completion of formal training directly related to food service or at least 1 year of full-time work experience preparing and serving food in a food service environment.
  • Experience using and maintaining equipment in an institutional food service operation. This is typically gained by at least one year within the last 5 years of full-time work experience using and maintaining equipment in an institutional food service operation.
  • At least 6 months Experience using a computer to generate reports, OR have completed a word processing, spreadsheet or database class within the last two years that included Excel.
  • POST Certification in Correction, graduated from an IDOC Pre-Service academy prior to July 1, 2005 and grandfathered per IDAPA 11.11.04.052, or willing and eligible to become POST Certified within one (1) year of hire date. PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS:

  • No hearing, sight or physical limitations that would prevent the performance of duties.
  • Meet POST Physical Agility Requirements to include:
    • Run/Jog/Walk 880 Yards in 8 minutes or less.
    • Lift 50-pound object and carry it 20 feet.
    • Stoop down repeatedly to unlock a lockbox with a key.
    • Headfirst on your back under a 24" barrier.
    • Climb a ladder go through a hatch and go back down.
