Position Summary
This position will serve as the pharmacy content expert for the EPIC Beacon Oncology Module as well as other infusion-related information technology. This coordinator will partner with oncology clinical staff, pharmacy infusion staff and the pharmacy IS team on the clinical development, pharmacy staff training and ongoing maintenance of Beacon and other infusion-related information technology.
Additionally this coordinator with support investigational drug studies and collaborating on the development of study protocols in Beacon. When staffing, this position is committed to the safe and effective use of medications through maximizing drug distribution and optimizing drug therapy outcomes; educating patients, providers, and ourselves on best practices; and fully integrating pharmacists into the continuum of care. Pharmacists report directly to a designated Pharmacy Supervisor based on area of practice.
Responsibilities
Provide clinical content for EPIC Beacon Oncology Module build.
Coordinates development and standardization of Beacon Protocols.
Coordinate Beacon Protocol Build and Validation.
Coordinate the Beacon Pharmacy Training Program, Competencies and clinical tools for oncology pharmacy staff.
Support the Oncology Service Line Investigational Drug Program with development of study protocols in Beacon.
Reviews the patient's medication profile prior to verifying each new order. Evaluates orders for indication, dose, dosage form, regimen, route, therapeutic duplication and drug interactions.
Ensures appropriateness of therapy by: Reviewing patient medication history, assessing patient demographics, recommending formulary alternatives when appropriate, developing drug monitoring plans, interpreting laboratory data, monitoring and documenting pharmacokinetics for targeted drugs.
Demonstrates basic competency in applying drug dosing guidelines, clinical lab data and pharmacokinetic properties to individualize drug therapy.
Communicates any drug therapy problems directly with the nurse and/or prescriber and documents all drug therapy interventions as appropriate.
Represent Oncology Pharmacy on pertinent Oncology/chemotherapy committees.
Minimum Requirements
BS Pharmacy or higher is required
Board certification in Oncology pharmacy practice (BCOP) is preferred
Three to four years related experience is preferred
Oncology residency or experience in oncology pharmacy.
Experience with Epic's Beacon Oncology system.
NC Pharmacy license within 60 days of hire.
