Dance Teacher, Middle School
Woodward Academy is looking for a dance educator for a full-time Middle School Dance Teacher position. The educator will teach various dance techniques and styles to 7th and 8th-grade students while creating a safe environment where they can learn and develop their dance skills.
Key Roles and Responsibilities:
Design and implement a comprehensive dance curriculum that fosters a safe and supportive learning environment, helps students become proficient in their technique, builds self-confidence, and expands their creativity.
Teach fundamental dance techniques, including but not limited to ballet, modern, jazz, hip-hop, contemporary, choreography, and improvisation, emphasizing proper alignment and movement quality.
Work closely with Upper and Lower School dance directors to ensure consistency and alignment in the dance curriculum across all grade levels.
Prepare students for performances, including rehearsals, costuming, and theater etiquette, while building their confidence and stage presence.
Partner with school administrators and other faculty members to promote dance education and student involvement in extracurricular dance activities, performances, and events.
Report directly to the Principal and the Performing Arts Department chair.
Take on additional responsibilities as directed by the Principal.
Required Skills:
Bachelor’s degree in Dance, Dance Education, or Performing Arts with a focus in dance.
Experience teaching dance to middle or high school students, backed by a strong portfolio of choreographic work and teaching and performance experience.
Strong ability to effectively convey and teach dance concepts and techniques to students of different skill levels and backgrounds.
Excellent interpersonal skills, capable of motivating and inspiring students while building positive relationships and collaborating with peers.
Dedication to cultivating an inclusive and diverse dance community that values creativity, expression, and individuality.
A genuine passion for dance education and a commitment to empowering students through artistic expression and movement.
Minimum Job Qualifications:
B.A. or B.F.A. in Dance from an accredited institution of higher learning
3 Professional dance experience required
3 years of successful teaching and choreographing in Middle school preferred
The Dance Teacher, Middle School position is a ten month, exempt position. Salary is commensurate with education and experience. Substantial benefits are available. EOE
