Manager - Battery Management Systems

Compensation to: $220K

Power Technology Associates, Inc. is conducting a retained search for a Manager of Battery Management Systems to join an established, rapidly growing client to contribute to continued growth and transformation as a leading energy technologies provider. This is a key leadership role that will support a commitment to create better energy solutions for their customers. Reporting to the Director of Engineering (Power Conversion / Energy Storage), the battery management team develops production-ready electronics and firmware solutions to support the battery electrification strategy. Applications include clean energy, EV charging, off-grid power, and industrial BESS. The ideal candidate will possess experience leading technical teams with a track record of delivering reliable and high-quality solutions.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

• Manage and grow a high-performing team of engineers specializing in the full development cycle of battery management systems
• Define a portfolio and execution plan for battery management development projects and improvement projects; support with appropriate analyses (e.g, RoI, revenue impact, budget analysis, etc)
• Drive the architecture, implementation, and validation of battery management systems
• Evaluate and negotiate product/solution requirements; assimilate with Core bms platform strategy; and ensure the team’s work is aligned
• Work with employees to help them achieve their full potential; recognize employee contributions and reward outstanding contributions
• Identify and anticipate resource conflicts and workflow conflicts, work to resolve them constructively
• Support financial discipline; plan and organize budgets to support strategic initiatives
• Most importantly, develop innovative technology, tackle difficult problems, and help deliver world-class energy solutions to our customers!

Qualifications:

• Bachelor of Science Degree in Electrical Engineering, Physics, or equivalent degree
• Approriate technical and leadership experience
• Excellent interpersonal skills
• Demonstrated ability to make decisions impacting business/organizational direction
• 5 years leading or managing a team
• Prior experience delivering high-tech hardware & firmware solutions
• Demonstrated strong knowledge of power electronics hardware, semiconductor power devices, and/or advanced digital control systems
• Understanding of test and verification methods for release of production ready solutions
• Experience with designing to meet agency compliance such as UL, CSA, NEC, CE, FCC, NFPA and EPA
• Experience with any of the following is a plus: BESS / battery energy storage systems, portable battery packs, EV charging, lithium-iom battery cells, power conversion systems.
