Job Description

The position of ULV Truck Driver involves an in-depth knowledge of mosquito control operations to include public health insecticides, Ultra Low Volume (ULV) spray equipment, Pasco County roadways, mosquito inspections, and the ability to execute complex field-oriented application decisions. A ULV Truck Driver may also be asked to work with the A1 Mister equipment.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS

  • Mosquito Control ULV Truck Drivers are responsible for executing nightly ULV missions as instructed by the ULV Foreman. He/she is responsible for keeping accurate records from their nightly mission including, chemical usage and areas treated. In addition, the employee is responsible for noting any map changes of the Pasco County treatment zones and cleaning their assigned truck at the end of their nightly mission.
  • During the peak mosquito control season, hours of operation for this part-time seasonal position are generally 6:30pm to 2:00am as needed. The employee is required to exercise initiative, problem solving skills and good judgment in carrying out their duties. He/she must have and maintain a valid Florida driver license and Public Health Pest Control License throughout their employment with the district.

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES

The intent of the listed knowledge, skills, and abilities is to give a general indication of the core requirements for all positions in the technical realm; therefore, the KSA's listed are not exhaustive or necessarily inclusive of the requirements of every position in the class.

  • Operate ULV spray equipment and the A1 Mister equipment.
  • Interpret pesticide labels and material safety data sheets (MSDS).
  • Work with pesticides according to label.
  • Understand ULV spray techniques and treatment zone navigation.
  • Understand and follow oral and written instructions and execute assigned tasks.
  • Work effectively and cooperatively with superiors, coworkers, and citizens.
  • Communicate and manage public relations situations to optimize mosquito control operations.
  • Organize, analyze, and maintain operating records.
  • Accurately record data from the ULV night treatment missions.
  • Comply with the district’s safety program in pesticide application and equipment safety as required by federal/state laws.
  • Operates vehicular equipment such as light duty trucks with spraying apparatus which requires the manipulation of simple controls.
  • Performs related work including, but not limited to, cleaning and maintaining their assigned trucks as required.

JOB REQUIREMENTS

Applicants must have education, training, and/or experience demonstrating competence in each of the following areas:

  • Applicant must have a High School diploma or equivalent G.E.D certificate.
  • Acquire and maintain a state of Florida Public Health Pest Control license within two seasons of service.
  • Must hold a valid driver license issued by the state of Florida.
  • Be able to accurately interpret pesticide labels and make proper pesticide applications using information contained within the label.
  • The employee must be efficient with maps.
  • The employee must be able and willing to work at times that are scheduled less than a week in advance.
  • Must be legally allowed to work in the United States.
  • Must be able to lift up to 50 pounds.
  • Must be able to work outdoors in hot & humid conditions.

COMPENSATION AND BENEFITS

  1. The pay for the ULV Truck Driver falls within the District’s 100 Pay Grade, which is on an hourly, non-exempt basis.
  1. This position is considered a Seasonal Part-time position and does not qualify for full-time employee benefits.

Physical Requirements/Work Environment:
The physical demands and work environment characteristics described here are representative of those that must be met by an employee to successfully perform the essential functions of this job. Physical Requirements: Moderate-to-strenuous physical activity is required on a periodic basis including lifting, carrying up to fifty pounds, reaching and pulling with arms, stooping, squatting, walking, kneeling, bending, standing, climbing in and out of various equipment and vehicles and climbing up and down ladders. Must be able to use hands and fingers to type, grip and operate a variety of automated/computer related equipment.

Work Environment: The work environment varies but normally is outdoors, especially during the summer months. Exposure to heat & humidity is common. Occasional local travel is required. The noise level is sometimes loud but is usually low.
