Position Summary:
PNCA invites applications for a part-time faculty pool in the BFA Painting Program to teach in Spring 2024, Fall 2024, and Spring 2025. There is an immediate opening for Intermediate and Advanced Figure/Anatomy courses for the Spring 2024 term. Each course meets in-person at our campus at 511 NW Broadway in Portland, Oregon. Class times are either two 3-hour sessions weekly or one 6-hour session weekly. In addition, the faculty member is expected to hold weekly office hours and spend time outside of class doing preparation and grading.
We are also seeking to identify instructors for future Painting & Drawing courses and additionally welcome applicants interested in teaching in Painting & Drawing for the 2024 - 2025 academic year.
The ideal candidate will have teaching experience as well as Painting and Drawing experience. Life Drawing teaching experience is preferred for those courses. For the other courses we are open to considering candidates who have Painting and Drawing experience who have not taught previously.
The priority deadline for application submission is November 1, 2023 for Spring 2024

Required qualifications

• MFA in relevant field OR equivalent professional experience.
• Demonstrated achievement and involvement in analogue Painting and Drawing, including experience with two or more of the following: materials and methods for oil and acrylic, techniques of representation and abstraction for drawing and painting, and mixed media, various drawing materials and methods.
• As courses will take place in person on the PNCA campus in Portland, the instructor must live in Portland or the surrounding area.
• Willingness to learn and use Canvas, PNCA's Learning Management System.

Preferred qualifications

• Teaching experience, particularly for Life Drawing courses.
• Knowledge and experience with Procreate software and digital painting and drawing methods.
• Knowledge of critical and inclusive pedagogies.
