About the Opportunity The Director of Research Development will report to the Associate Dean for Research and Innovation of the Bouvé College of Health Sciences and the Director of AI Health & Wellness at the Institute for Experiential Artificial Intelligence (EAI). The individual will collaborate with research development officers across the university, college leadership, university, as well as faculty, staff, and graduate students. This critical strategic position will enhance the overall college research program in artificial intelligence applications for health sciences, wellness, and clinical research. A key focus will be to help develop research at Northeastern’s campus in Charlotte, NC, however the research development activities will also include all other Northeastern campuses. A focus will be on federal and industry sponsored grants. This will be accomplished through targeted activities to build long-term capacity and provide strategic and tactical support across the college and in partnership with other units at Northeastern. The individual will be an integral member of the Bouve, EAI, and Charlotte Campus team, helping researchers to: (1) identify and analyze funding opportunities and connect with funders, (2) ideate, develop, and edit proposals to funders, and (3) facilitate interaction with administrative structures within institution, as well as managing various internal projects. The position requires extensive interaction with many internal/external stakeholders. Principally this will include Northeastern faculty and other staff, but also includes external groups (outside faculty, industry/government collaborators and funders, etc.). The job provides a unique challenge in that the multiple constituencies have simultaneously different and overlapping needs which must be anticipated and accommodated. In addition to outstanding communication, writing and editing skills, this job requires experience or familiarity in artificial intelligence advancements with respect to the health sector, superior organizational skills, flexibility, excellent communication skills, and the ability to effectively prioritize, integrate and balance the various ongoing efforts under strict deadlines. Qualifications Master’s degree required (preferably in a health / computer science / technology or related field) with 5 years of research development experience in higher education. Experience with NIH and NSF grant mechanisms and grant applications is required (additional experience with other public and private agencies preferable). Experience in interfacing with industry partners and ability to understand priorities and pain points facing business organizations Strong time management skills and ability to work toward time-sensitive milestones and deliverable Strong ability to synthesize and communicate information and data in a cohesive and succinct manner Outstanding writing and editing skills, particularly of technical and health-related documents. Superior organizational capabilities and ability to work independently with strong self-initiative. Strong Microsoft Office skills (Word, PowerPoint, Excel); knowledge of Adobe Creative Suite a plus. Must be flexible, work well in a team and in a fast-paced environment. Strong work ethic.
