**Description**

**Position Summary:**

The Commissary Manager & Clinical Nutritionist is a key member of the Nutrition Department overseeing all aspects of the commissary operations, food procurement and preparation, and management of commissary staff and volunteers. This position will also work with Zoological Operations and Animal Heath Departments to plan and direct all aspects of a comprehensive nutrition program in order to achieve the highest standard of aquatic animal management and care.

**Responsibilities:**

- Demonstrate commitment to Georgia Aquariums vision, mission, and values.

- Oversees management of commissary operations, which includes daily operation of animal food preparation, product inventory and procurement, quality control sampling, budget development and adherence, and staff evaluation and training.

- Oversees all nutritional aspects of animal diets and supplementation and diet change requests.

- Along with veterinary and curatorial staff, monitors condition of the collection with respect to feeding status, nutritional health, and body condition and initiates actions in preventative health care management.

- Regular diet formulation and evaluation of bloodwork as it relates to nutritional health.

- Supervises the maintenance and use of nutrition records throughout the Aquarium.

- Foster and maintain professional contacts and collaborations within the Aquarium, and in the aquarium-related field; participate in zoo and aquarium related professional endeavors specifically related to nutrition (e.g., AZA, NAG, CNS).

- Provide nutrition education and/or training to support to staff and students (residents, interns, etc).

- Ensures federal and state regulatory compliance and company SOP guidelines in all aspects of commissary operations, including AZA accreditation standards, USDA guidelines, and HACCP protocols.

- Attend veterinary and curatorial meetings as needed.

- Work with aquariums Public Relations and Communications team to highlight the importance of the aquariums nutrition programs.

- To perform other duties as workload necessitates.

**Qualifications:**

- *Required*: Minimum of an M.S. degree in nutrition, animal science or a related field.

- *Required*: Minimum of 3 years of aquaculture, aquarium/zoo or wildlife clinical nutrition experience, including diet formulation.

- *Required*: Minimum of 3 years of supervisory experience and a strongly developed management ethos.

- *Required*: Prior experience with food preparation, understanding of food service sanitation, and federal and state regulations on food handling, thawing, and storage compliance.

- *Required*: Demonstrated knowledge of principles of lead supervision and training, techniques and methods for handling biological and feed samples, proper methods for handling food service and lab equipment, principles of quality control and food service sanitation programs, safe procedures for working with hazardous chemicals.

- *Required*: Superior verbal and written communication skills.

- *Required*: High-level problem analysis and resolution skills.

- *Required*: Ability to be flexible and shift priorities to meet departmental requirements.

- *Required*: Proficiency with Microsoft Office Products (Word, Excel, PowerPoint).

- *Preferred*: Formal management coursework or training.

- *Preferred*: Experience with Tracks and Zootrition software.
