Polaris Tech Charter School is looking for a Special Education Paraprofessional. We seek those who will join an outstanding education team to unleash student potential and cultivate aspirations - where students are career-focused, college-ready, and invested in the community.
At Polaris Tech Charter School, the Navigator :
Holds High Expectations for Equitable Outcomes : The teacher will create a rigorous but supportive environment in which all students are held to high academic expectations. The teacher will seek evidence of the achievement of goals to help all students meet expectations. The teacher will move beyond the traditional notion of providing each student with the same learning experience and be willing to apply differentiated instructional strategies.
Embraces Competency-Based Learning : The teacher will recognize that not all students learn at the same pace and differentiate instruction to meet students' diverse needs.
Values All Learners : In seeking to personalize instruction, the teacher will recognize all students bring different strengths and needs to the classroom. The teacher is aware of different learning preferences, diversity, and universal design principles and appropriately differentiates and adapts to meet the academic, social, and emotional individual needs of each student.
Has a Growth Mindset: Teachers will constantly enhance their skill sets through professional development opportunities. Teachers will apply the same mindset to students by encouraging them to take risks and learn from their successes and failures.
Essential Job Functions :
  • Assist the Special Education teacher in facilitating instructional activities
  • Work one-on-one with learners
  • Work with small groups to support instruction
  • Reinforces instructional skills taught by the teacher
  • Compiles, prepares, and organizes materials for instruction
  • Assist with daily attendance and collecting communication folders
  • Assist in supervising students as they transition from one setting to the next
  • Operates computers, printers, copiers,laminating machines, and other devices/tools
Requirements
  • An associate's degree or higher; or
  • An approved state or local academic assessment that measures the paraprofessional's knowledge of and ability to assist in instruction at the appropriate level. Paraprofessionals may meet the assessment requirement by passing the ParaPro Assessment (ETS.org). The minimum passing score on this test is 456.
  • Ensure compliance with required federal, state, district, and school policies
  • Develop and maintain professional relationships with pupils, parents, teachers, staff, and the community
  • Days Per Year: 190
  • References from current and former supervisors
  • Satisfactory SLED (SC Law Enforcement Division) Check
