Planned Parenthood of Tennessee and North Mississippi is one of Tennessee's oldest and largest private, non-profit health care agencies. For over 75 years, PPTNM has remained committed to providing high-quality, affordable reproductive services and education throughout Tennessee, north Mississippi, and parts of Arkansas and Kentucky. COVID VACCINATION REQUIREMENT FOR CANDIDATES SEEKING EMPLOYMENT:

PPTNM, as both a healthcare provider and a participant of Medicare/Medicaid, is subject to certain laws, regulations and orders requiring its workforce to be fully vaccinated against COVID-19 and its variants. JOB SUMMARY

The Middle Tennessee & Black Constituency Organizer will carry out organizing efforts for the Black Organizing Program, support grassroots advocacy work through volunteer engagement, and implement strategic plans to build and engage Planned Parenthood of Tennessee and North Mississippi (PPTNM) and Tennessee Advocates for Planned Parenthood’s (TAPP) bases of supporters virtually and in-person. This role is hybrid.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:

  • Under the direction of the Director of Organizing & Advocacy, works with PPTNM staff to implement a strategic organizing plan to build Tennesseans’ support for Planned Parenthood and our reproductive and sexual health agenda.
  • Under the direction of the Black Organizing Program Manager, builds collective power through legislative education and cultural awareness through culturally inclusive community engagement; decreases abortion stigma and criminalization awareness through legislation, education and power strategies for the progress of Black voters in Tennessee; and empowers Tennessee Black families by connecting them to comprehensive sexual and reproductive health education, family planning services and harm reduction on Black college campuses and in the broader community.
  • Mobilizes volunteers to carry out PPTNM’s grassroots organizing plan via one-on-ones, calls, texts, and emails.
  • Develops community engagement strategy, conducts regular volunteer orientations, and brings volunteers up a ladder of engagement.
  • Recruits and trains volunteers and interns, lead phone banks, organize canvasses and other volunteer activities.
  • Develops the skills of volunteer leaders to build a network of new grassroots community organizers.
  • Practice volunteer stewardship, including appreciation events and recognition.
  • Builds relationships and collaborates with community groups and organizations to build a sustainable progressive movement in Middle Tennessee.
  • Maintains, updates, tracks, and communicates with volunteers through EveryAction/VAN database; generates regular reports.
  • Represents PPTNM when needed at coalition meetings and works with partner organizations to implement our field plan.
  • Ensures compliance with 501 (c)(3) and 501 (c)(4) guidelines for approved activities.
  • Some travel required; must have an automobile with a current driver's license and insurance.
  • Protects the confidentiality of PPTNM clients, donors, board, and all areas of operation.
  • Performs other duties as needed or directed.

JOB REQUIREMENTS:

EXPERIENCE: At least 3 years of professional experience preferred; political, campaign and/or community organizing experience a plus, experience (volunteer or paid) recruiting, training, and mobilizing a team of 10 or more volunteers/members preferred.

Other: Willingness to work flexible hours including evenings and weekends. Full-time access to a car and a valid driver’s license is required; some travel required. Strong preference for a Tennessee resident.
