Job Description This position is responsible for welding pipes of various metals on a ship or in a shop to support fabrication and construction of marine vessels including US Naval, Military Sealift Command, and commercial ships and barges. Requirements Education and Experience: Position requires a high school diploma or equivalent. Must have a minimum of five (5) years of pipe welding experience. Qualifications, Duties, and Responsibilities: Must be able to comprehend instructions, drawings, and general correspondence. Must have a working knowledge of ship terminology and ship compartment naming convention. Must be physically and medically capable to wear all required personal protective equipment (PPE) required for the job as prescribed under OSHA PPE includes hard hat, safety glasses, leather steel toe boots, goggles, respirator, safety harness, safety line, flotation gear, etc. Must be able to effectively confer job related information such as conditions found by writing condition reports that include recommended corrective action. Must have a thorough knowledge of SMAW, FCAW, and GMAW theory. Must be able to certify in joint, socket, and butt welds in the following processes: SMAW, GTAW, FCAW and Silver Brazing. Must be able to interpret drawings, specifications, and Navy/MSC/ABS standard items and manuals. Must possess a working knowledge of equipment and work processes used in marine pipe welding. Must be able to operate and care for welding equipment, portable power tools, and hand tools used to accomplish assigned work. Must be able to add, subtract, multiply, and divide whole numbers, fractions, and must understand the US customary and metric measurement systems. Position Requirements Must be 18 years of age or older. Must be a U.S. person. Must be able to work at heights. Must be able to work in confined and enclosed spaces. Must be able to work in inclement weather conditions. Must be available to work all 3 shifts, and weekends, as required. Must be able to lift 50lbs.
