Overview:

REPORTS TO: PROGRAM DIRECTOR

LOCATION: 71 Sullivan Street, Brooklyn, NY 11231

HOURS : 12 Hours/Week; Non-Exempt (Afterschool)

Salary: $19/hr - $25/hr

JOB SUMMARY: The Activity Instructor to provide recreational/educational/arts workshops and activities for young people to learn new skills; as well as an avenue for self-development and expression.

MAJOR DUTIES:

  • Design, plan and conduct activities and workshops in specified areas of education, sports, gym, crafts and/or the performing arts.
  • Submit lesson/activity plans in advance.
  • Conduct activities enriched with literacy and math skills whenever possible.
  • Plan and implement a culminating event or project.
  • Complete daily progress reports.
  • Manage setup, operation and clean-up of activities and the organization, inventory and storing of relevant supplies and equipment.
  • Attend all staff meetings and staff development trainings sessions, as specified.
  • Guide program participants in examining choices, following directions and becoming involved in program activities.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.

QUALIFICATIONS:

  • High School diploma required; Bachelors degree preferred.
  • Must have experience or skill in performing or visual arts, sports, recreation, crafts and/or physical education.
  • Must have the ability to work Saturdays and evenings.
  • Excellent group facilitation skills
  • Good communication skills and ability to work collaboratively
  • Must have a commitment to work from a strength-based and/or youth development perspective.
