Children’s Home Society is currently seeking a Full Time Physical Education Classroom Teacher to plan and implement individual and/or group recreational activities within a classroom and/or gym setting that are meaningfully related to individual student’s social, emotional, and academic learning goals.
What You'll Do:
- Plan and implement individual/group recreational activities for each student in accordance with his/her physical, emotional and social needs.
- Provide a broad range of activities involving principles and practices of art, dance, movement, music, and other disciplines.
- Prepare, review, and maintain daily and weekly activity schedules, including lesson plans.
- Maintain classroom and/or student records and documentation and contribute data for progress notes and individual treatment plans.
- Reinforce instructional/behavioral objectives as needed to maintain an effective classroom learning environment.
- Nurture children through one-on-one communication and care and maintain vigilant supervision of children.
- Establish appropriate classroom and/or gym rules and procedures that ensure a safe and therapeutic classroom environment for all children.
- Introduce and reflect on academic and social learning goals and objectives.
- Communicate and collaborate with all colleagues, inclusive of parents/guardians, social workers, therapists, etc.
- Provide leadership in efforts to improve student behavior, social skills, and safety.
- Complete required paperwork on time and accurately.

Schedule: Monday - Friday 6:45 am - 2:45 pm, year-round
Compensation: $51,120.00- $64,918.64 (Depending on education and experience)

Requirements
Experience/Education/Skills
- Bachelor’s degree and endorsements in the areas of teaching assignment required. Certification, alternative certification, or licensure in special education and/or special education experience.
- Current, valid South Dakota teaching certificate required.
- References that can depict level of interest in working with children with behavioral issues.
- Knowledge of and ability to use personal computers and software utilized by office.
Physical Demands and Work Environment:
Classroom environment focused on the instruction of children with emotional and behavioral issues. While performing the duties of this job, the employee must be able to physically restrain a child in ways taught by the Agency while being able to verbally communicate to the child and other staff. The employee must regularly lift and/or move up to 10 pounds and occasionally lift and/or move up to 50 pounds.
