The Content Acquisition Operations team plays a meaningful role in enabling the development of all Cengage Group products. The Content Acquisition Analyst is responsible for facilitating the selection of content and acquisition of inbound intellectual property and licenses. This includes contract interpretation pertaining to payment of both narrative content (royalties) as well as licensed content. This high visibility role provides analysis, recommendations, consultation, and support for key stakeholders of the Content Data Operations team for assigned content areas and maintains compliance with Cengage Group’s Legal rights policies. This content focused position serves as a key player in the development of Cengage product lines including critical path timing management, budget management and contract interpretation activities. This role also acts as primary liaison for content acquisition analysis, planning, and recommendations! What You’ll Do Here: Proactively provide guidance to Product Teams and Content Development teams regarding licensed content acquisition activities and budgetary requirements for projects within assigned product list Interpret contracts related to narrative content to ensure correct royalty payments are made Exhibit the personality, drive, and leadership skills to steer authors, content managers, and product teams towards savvy content selection choices during the content creation process Develop in-depth knowledge of discipline product lines, relationships with internal and external teams and authors, and frequently used rights holders within product line Plan, analyze, and identify workflow issues, source issues, or team issues that potentially jeopardize project schedules, prior to and during the development phase of projects Review new and reuse content requests and product logs supplied, to proactively identify appropriate rights profiles, legal risks, I&D initiatives, budget, and schedule concerns Identify free and low-cost opportunities such as, but not limited to, fair use and public domain Review rights contracts for rights profile compliance, work with Legal Counsel as necessary Demonstrate creative problem solving and implement creative solutions Monitor industry for assigned content to identify developments and/or trends in field, potential sources and topics, and marketing opportunities Keep up to date on current Copyright Law and industry changes Design and maintain critical path analysis for content acquisition project plans Provide post analysis as need to identify issues and develop revision recommendations Make recommendations around process and systems improvement Skills You Will Need Here: Bachelor’s degree or minimum of 3 years of equivalent experience in a professional role performing similar work Strong proficiency with MS Office, especially Excel Ability to take initiative and work effectively while managing your own workload Very strong attention to detail with a consistent record managing multiple priorities and a large volume of work Ability to contribute constructively to a team-oriented environment with rapidly changing priorities and time pressures Outstanding reading comprehension, communication, organizational, and problem-solving skills Willingness to work in a fast-paced environment where overtime hours may be needed to meet deadlines Preferred Skills/Knowledge/Experience: Bachelor’s degree in Business, Finance, Mathematics, or analytics Proficiency with royalty software, general ERP system and reporting software (Alliant, JD Edwards, Data Warehouse) Experience reading and understanding contracts Cengage Group is proud to be an Equal Employment Opportunity and Affirmative Action employer.
