Academy of Visual and Performing Arts is a 6-12th grade, tuition-free public charter school for students in Fort Worth, Texas. Our mission is to provide a safe, challenging learning environment that cultivates our students’ academic and artistic excellence. We exist to ensure that all students are provided with equitable opportunities to Learn In The Arts and Learn Through The Arts.

Start Date: July 8, 2024

Type: Full-time position. Work hours are generally 8:15 am - 4:45 pm. Flexibility in the work schedule is expected due to the nature of working in a start-up environment. Candidates should have the flexibility to travel, and work in the evenings, and on the weekends, as needed. The schedule will be adjusted to accommodate after-hours assignments.

SUMMARY

Reporting to the Assistant Principal - Academic, and Coordinator of Special Populations. The Intervention Specialist serves as a key member of the Instructional Leadership Team, ensuring that the campus meets high standards of organizational, academic, and customer service excellence with a strong focus on driving strong student achievement outcomes. As an Academy of Visual and Performing Arts Intervention Specialist, your core responsibilities, at a minimum, include:

Instructional Leadership

  • Develop, implement, organize, and manage the math and reading intervention program consistent with the requirements of the AVPA mission, the Multi-tiered System of Supports Program, and Accelerated Instruction program requirements and regulations.
  • Schedule, student groups, implementation, length, frequency, etc.
  • Review, and develop Accellerated Instruction Plans (AIPs)
  • Co-chair and lead the in the MTSS Committee
  • Work with the Assistant Principal of Academics to identify specific areas of need within the TEKS, and develop intervention materials for both math and reading.
  • Work with the Special Populations Coordinator to ensure fidelity of implementation of interventions, data collection, MTSS, and compliance.
  • Continuously monitor, track, and analyze student performance and achievement data to inform practice, identify needs, and determine strategies to support all students.
  • Report student performance, and achievement data to the instructional leadership team, and attend PLCs of reading and math regularly.
  • Collaborate with teachers individually to identify the needs of students, set learning goals and targets, and problem-solve with teachers in order to develop best practices for the continuous academic growth of students.

Intervention Specialist

  • Provide students with the appropriate research-based math and reading interventions utilizing high-quality, research-based supplemental instructional materials individually and/or small-group, as needed.
  • Maintains and submits accurate and up-to-date management records of all students' progress.
  • Work with Assessment Specialist to develop and review results from universal screeners, benchmarks, and STAAR assessments.

Professional Development

  • Support the development of high-quality and effective instruction in all subjects, including participating in instructional planning, professional learning, and professional development.
  • Conduct professional development on adolescent mathematics/reading acquisition and improving the quality of math/reading instruction.

Perform other duties as assigned.

Requirements

First and foremost, the Intervention Specialist must have an unwavering commitment to the Academy of Visual and Performing Arts’ mission and willingness to go above and beyond to meet the needs of AVPA students, families, and staff. Additionally, for this position, we’re looking for candidates that possess a combination of the following skills:

  • Bachelor’s degree
  • Three (3) year of mathematics/reading teaching experience required
  • Valid Texas teaching certification required; ESL certification preferred
  • Previous intervention experience, preferred
  • Strong project and time management skills; ability to effectively backward plan, juggle multiple priorities with great attention to, detail, and deliver consistent and timely results
  • Ability to lead, influence, and hold others accountable to high standards of operational excellence
  • Strong learning orientation and desire to work in a fast-paced, dynamic work environment
  • Successful criminal background check required

Academy of Visual and Performing Arts’ compensation philosophy is to pay competitively for the PK-12 charter market to ensure equity across our institution. The salary for this role is $65,000-$70,000 annually. AVPA is committed to internal pay equity throughout our organization. Because of this, we do not negotiate salary offers outside our salary bands. We offer a competitive benefits package with comprehensive health benefits.
