Overview:

The Boys Unit Leader supervises the cabin areas of the boys cabins. They supervise cabin counselors and help manage camper behaviors during the day. They are a resource for staff to ensure that all campers are safe and able to have fun while at camp. The Girls Unit Leader is a lead staff member who takes on a leadership role within the leadership team. The Boys Unit Leader assist with scheduling time off, van runs and ensuring their direct reports receive the support needed to create a magical summer at camp.

  • Boys Unit Leader Specific Tasks
    • Hold staff accountable to ensure campers are on time for meals, activities, and bed and help problem solve issues in attaining that.
    • Hold staff accountable to clean the cabin and the area around it daily and ensure that exits are safe, paths are clear, and that the cabin looks welcoming and well organized through daily cabin checks.
    • Help staff create a schedule to ensure that campers are completing their activities of daily living such as showering, brushing their teeth, eating, drinking plenty of water, and more.
    • Roam during activity periods to make sure that all campers are welcome to participate in activities safely.
    • Help and coach staff to manage camper behaviors and give them the tools to be able to participate in camp safely while hopefully making friends and learning new physical, social, and emotional skills.
    • Complete paperwork such as incident reports, grant reporting, and more as assigned by camp leadership and the office manager.
    • Make sure staff are completing their paperwork and follow up with them to ensure it is happening.
    • Report facility issues to the Property Manager in a timely manner.
    • Must be able to use hands and fingers to help facilitate programs
    • Must be able to stand, walk, kneel, sit for long periods of time
    • Must have great communication skills, both verbal and written

Specific Duties:

  • General Camp Tasks
    • Follow all camp rules and ensure that staff and campers are as well.
    • Abide by Personnel Policies & Procedures of the ULBGC Camp.
    • Follow all State of Wisconsin, American Camp Association, and other certifying body guidelines.
    • Some lifting and carrying up to 50 pounds
    • Desire to work collaboratively on a team, with openness to feedback and a desire to grow professionally
    • Ability to maintain an excellent work ethic, high level of energy, and exceptional enthusiasm each day
  • Trainings and meetings
    • Attend leadership training and staff training before camp starts.
    • Attend meetings before each session starts.
    • Work with supervisors to plan skills to improve on while working at camp.
    • Check in daily with staff under their supervision.
  • Supervisory
    • Supervise cabin counselors and program staff while assisting in cabins.
    • Coach staff to appropriately deal with campers so everyone can be successful at camp.
    • Assist to manage camper negative behaviors that require extra support.
    • Complete a mid summer and end of summer evaluation for all staff who report to them
  • Complete other tasks as assigned.
Requirements:

Requirements:

  • Must be at least 25 years old
  • Must have experience working with youth, preferably in a residential camp setting
  • CPR Certified Preferred
  • Passion to provide a positive camp experience to everyone who comes to camp
  • Good health and a physical condition suited for outdoor work and long hours
  • Must live on camp while camp is in session
  • Experience leading peers a plus
