Position Overview:
The APP is defined as a Physician Assistant (PA) or Nurse Practitioner (NP). The role of the APP is to assist in the evaluation and management of chronic pain patient with and without physician medical supervision in a fashion demonstrates administrative and philosophical compatibility with Montrose Regional Health. Within scope of practice, APP will exercise autonomy in medical decision making and provide a broad range of diagnostic and therapeutic services. Pain management (PM) subspecialty duties include the assessment of new or established, in/outpatient PM patients, an in-depth understanding of and ordering responsibilities for all PM non-invasive testing. The APP may perform hospital rounding per the requirements of the patient census and in support of the physician provider needs.
Essential Functions :
1. Assess the health status of individuals through relevant history taking and physical examination.
2. Order and interpret appropriate laboratory, radiographic data, diagnostic and therapeutic procedures.
3. Formulate appropriate medical diagnosis, initiate and modify therapeutic regimens, prescribe appropriate pharmacological and non-pharmacological agents, and evaluate outcome measures of care
4. They collaborate with patients and their families to educate them on managing pain, dietary and other means of minimizing risk of pain exacerbation
5. Consult, refer, and collaborate with other disciplines in the delivery of comprehensive patient care as indicated by the patient's healthcare needs.
6. Promote collegial relationships with other clinical staff and providers in the community. Serve as a consultant to Nursing and Medical staff for patients with complex treatment or care needs.
7. Demonstrate evidence of continuing professional growth by participation in education, annual performance evaluations, and the review of protocols and procedures.
8. Maintain BLS and ACLS certification and initiate and participate in life saving techniques.
9. Provides treatment and enlightens patients in a clinical setting, while also keeping accounts and details of medical histories and carrying out diagnostics.
10. Make use of evidence-based medicine procedures by utilizing quality and cost-effective care.
11. Perform in-clinic injections with and without ultrasound guidance
12. Enlighten patients' and their families with regards to the pain management procedures, which include primary and secondary prevention of pain exacerbation while being mindful of the patient's emotional, cultural and physical requirements.
13. Generate sufficient organizational skills to organize patients case load.
14. Performs hospital rounding as required to support physician provider needs.
15. Assists PM physicians in the development of best practice clinical office protocols for the benefit of providing standard care to practice patients
Education, Licensure and Work Experience
1. Physician Assistant
a. Education
i. Master's Degree of Physician Assistant Studies or Master of Medical Science preferred.
b. Licensure and Certification
i. Board Certified thru NCCPA
ii. Active Colorado State Licensure as a Physician Assistant
2. Nurse Practitioner
a. Education
i. Minimum Master's Degree as a Nurse Practitioner
b. Licensure and Certification
i. Active Colorado State Licensure as a Nurse Practitioner
3. APP (PA/NP) : Previous experience working in an orthopedic and/ or physiatry/ pain management environment
4. APP (PA/NP): Active Colorado DEA licensure
Physical Demands and Working Conditions:
1. Ability to lift 50-100 pounds.
2. Moving, lifting or transferring of patients may involve lifting of up to 100 pounds, as well as assist with weights of more than 100 pounds.
3. Ability to stand for extended periods.
4. Interpersonal skills and sound judgment necessary to communicate with a wide variety of persons including patients
