Te Tūranga – About the role
If you're passionate about building exceptional backend systems and leading teams to do their best work, this is your stage. As an Integration Tech Lead within our Customer Domain Services Team, you’ll play a key role in shaping the future of our integration stack — designing scalable, high-performing microservices, mentoring a talented team of engineers, and setting new standards for engineering excellence. You’ll work with modern tools and practices, bring big ideas to life – and help drive real impact across the business.
In this role, you’ll:
- Lead the design and development of robust, scalable microservices that deliver outstanding customer experiences.
- Lead and manage a skilled team of Software Engineers, supporting their growth, performance and other day to day line management activities.
- Define and evolve our integration technology roadmap, staying aligned with industry best practices and innovation.
- Turn high-level concepts into smart, sustainable solutions with a focus on quality, scalability, and speed.
- Foster a culture of continuous improvement, with strong engineering practices like monitoring, automated testing, and resilience baked into everything we build.

You have a passion for crafting scalable, high-performing integrations, thrive in fast-paced environments, and know how to turn big ideas into real, working systems. Whether you’re deep in code, coaching your team, or solving a tough integration challenge, you bring energy, curiosity, and a drive to deliver your best every day.
You’ll thrive in this role if you have:
- A tertiary degree in Technology and plenty of hands-on experience across integration, microservices, and cloud-native environments.
- Serious coding skills with Java microservices (Spring Boot, Node.js/Koa) and a strong grasp of RESTful APIs, JSON, and XML.
- A passion for automation, BDD/TDD practices, and building out rock-solid CI/CD pipelines that keep delivery fast and smooth.
- Real-world leadership experience — you know how to mentor, guide, and lift a team of Senior Software Engineers while keeping standards sky-high – along with being responsible for their development, having regular catchups, and conducting midyear and annual reviews
- Solid experience with tools like Git, Docker, Kubernetes, and monitoring platforms like Grafana, Splunk, or New Relic.
- Proven ability to collaborate, influence, and drive outcomes in a true Agile/SCRUM environment — even when things get complex.
