Job Title: Band Director
Reports To: Building Principal
FLSA Status: Exempt
POSITION SUMMARY
The successful candidate will direct the overall high school instrumental music program in conjunction with the band director. Candidate will provide students with an opportunity to participate in extracurricular band activities and ensures compliance with all state and district requirements. Candidate will plan activities to achieve district, conference, region, and state recognition.
QUALIFICATIONS

• BA/BS Degree in Education
• In compliance with MHSA
• Valid Mississippi teaching certificate

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
To direct the marching band in the following areas, assuming the full duties of the marching band director in the event of his/her absence:

• Build and maintain a successful marching band and marching band program.
• Teach marching techniques, including but not limited to: marching, movement, drill and field techniques.
• Teach music techniques including but not limited to: balance, blend, timing, intonation, expression, phrasing and technique.
• Hold and direct a band camp in August to learn the music and field show for the upcoming season.
• Hold and direct rehearsals-minimum of 4 hours per week (or the equivalent) from September to November.
• Attend and perform in the stands and on the field for the school's varsity football team.
• Attend and perform at selected community and school parades, pep rallies and the like.
• Keep accurate attendance records and assessment results.
• Performance at some type of adjudicated marching band show or festival is highly encouraged but not required.
• Takes all necessary and reasonable precautions to protect students, equipment, materials and facilities
  Works collaboratively with staff, families, and community resources
• Organizes and leads appropriate summer practices to prepare for school year activities and football season
• Organizes and leads after school practice sessions beginning on the first day of school for the fall semester continuing through the final football game of the season
• Prepares an entertaining halftime show for fall football games consisting of marching and music that are consistent with community standards.
• Coordinates publicity for band activities, notifying proper staff members of all activities scheduled by the group.
• Coordinates the Friday night football program in conjunction with the High School Principal, Athletic Director and Cheerleader Sponsor including pregame, post-game and game-time activities
• Ensures band performs in appropriate district and school music festivals
• Ensures bands persons a winter music concert, spring music concert, and at graduation exercises
• Ensures student band members are uniformly dressed for all public appearances
• Interacts with the Band Directors to ensure consistency in instructional achievement between the school levels.
• Rides bus for away football games
• Maintains a clean and organized band hall
• Maintains compliance with all rules and regulations of the Mississippi High School Activities Association
• Complies with and supports all school district regulations and policies
• Performs any other duties assigned by Principal
