Description

 SUMMARY:
The Sports Information Director (SID) oversees all aspects of media relations, communications, and marketing related to the college’s intercollegiate sports programs while assisting the Copiah-Lincoln Community College Foundation in corporate sponsorships. The SID also works closely with the Mississippi Association of Community College Conference (MACCC) and the National Junior College Athletic Association (NJCAA).
SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITIES:
  • None
DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
  1. Writes and distributes media releases, game notes, and feature stories to inform the general public and media of the college’s intercollegiate sports teams and student-athletes.
  2. Generates all promotional materials including media guides, schedule posters and cards, postcards, rosters, brochures, TV/radio advertising, and gameday graphics, etc.
  3. Coordinates media coverage for all home sporting events.
  4. Collaborates with all coaches on all information requests, compiling records and statistics, and completes the necessary reports for the NJCAA, MACCC, and Copiah-Lincoln Community College.
  5. Coordinates the radio broadcast crew for home and away sporting events and provides radio announcements.
  6. Coordinates live streaming for sporting events, including securing camera operators.
  7. Manages the press box and coordinates scoreboard graphics at home football games.
  8. Responsible for statistics and handling special promotions for athletics.
  9. Works with the Copiah-Lincoln Community College Foundation on corporate sponsorships, including signage at all athletic venues, commercials for video boards and streaming, and assigning in-game promotions and season passes for corporate sponsors.
  10. Responsible for hiring contracted service employees including photographer, play-by-play announcer, statistician, student workers, and public address announcer (football, basketball, soccer, etc.)
  11. Handles all media requests for the athletic programs and student-athletes in collaboration with the coaches.
  12. Creates and manages game-day operations and promotions including special guests in collaboration with the College President for football. Prepares media information sheet/reserve parking to be sent out to opposing team before each home football game, charts and labels reserve seating (football and basketball), writes scripts for public address announcer for all home football games.
  13. Provides content for and maintains all portions of the official athletic website (www.colinathletics.com).
  14. Provides timely content for the college-wide athletic social media accounts.
  15. Creates video features and interviews to enhance game coverage and for website and social media content.
  16. Prepares nominations for weekly sports honors.
  17. Develop relationships with local and statewide media, MACCC Commissioner and SID, and SIDs at other MACCC colleges.
  18. Recruits, trains, and assigns student workers to assist with sports gameday operations.
  19. Travels with the teams to away contests, when necessary.
  20. Attends, when necessary, non-sports-related events/promotions of the college.
  21. Performs other duties as assigned.

Qualifications


MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:
  • Bachelor’s degree in marketing, communications, public relations, sports management, or a closely related field
  •  One (1) year of marketing, communications, public relations, sports information/communications, or similar experience
  • Demonstrated excellent interpersonal, written, and oral communication skills
  • Strong working knowledge of publication design
  • Demonstrated strong organizational and customer service skills
  • Demonstrated ability to be goal-oriented, self-motivated, multi-task, and meet frequent deadlines
  • Demonstrated ability with Adobe Creative Suite including Photoshop and InDesign
  • Knowledge of and demonstrated use of various social media platforms and statistical software (PrestoSports)
  • Demonstrated photography and video skills, including editing.
PREFERED QUALIFICATIONS:
  • Previous experience in a college sports information or communications/public relations office 
  • Basic knowledge of a wide range of intercollegiate sports, their rules, and statistical requirements
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office and Adobe Creative Suite including Photoshop and InDesign
  • Experience with website Content Management Systems and athletics statistical software packages such as PrestoSports
ENVIRONMENT AND DEMANDS:
  • The work environment is an office setting with moderate noise.
  • While performing the duties of this Job, the employee is regularly required to sit; use hands to finger, handle, or feel and talk or hear. The employee is frequently required to reach with hands and arms. The employee is occasionally required to stand; walk; climb or balance and stoop, kneel, crouch, or crawl. The employee must regularly lift and/or move up to 10 pounds and occasionally lift and/or move up to 25 pounds. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception, and the ability to adjust focus.
