UHS of Delaware, Inc. is Hiring a Teacher - Child / Adolescent Inpatient (Part Time) Near WEST ALLIS, WI

Responsibilities

Granite Hills Hospital offers high-quality, patient centered behavioral health care for the greater Milwaukee community. Our 120-bed facility features evidence-based treatment for adolescents, adults, and older adults. 

We are looking for looking for a Teacher - Child / Adolescent to join our new team.

The Teacher – Child / Adolescent provides focused educational instruction and academic support to Adolescents who are admitted to Granite Hills and are actively enrolled in elementary or secondary education (Middle School or High School). The Teacher employs a variety of instructional techniques, curriculum and instructional media, consistent with the physical limitations of the location, as well as the needs and capabilities of the students. Provides academic teaching services to patients enrolled in elementary or secondary education in a Department of Public Instruction (DPI) approved course and residing within the State of Wisconsin. The school is in session year round so the Academic Teacher works a non-traditional school schedule.

Essential Functions

  • Must be able to teach Middle and High School aged students in core subject areas:

Math, Language Arts, Social Studies, Science and Health.

  • Develop curriculum that follows Wisconsin State standards and benchmarks. Standards must be aligned for all lessons, units and projects with the ability to communicate these objectives to students.
  • Assist in the development of a treatment plan that assists the student in navigating their emotional and/or behavioral challenges so they may meet these educational standards.
  • Able to modify lessons accordingly to meet IEP goals and student needs.
  • Employ a variety of instructional techniques and instructional media, consistent with the physical limitations of the location, as well as the needs and capabilities of the students.
  • Able to assess all core subject areas according to Wisconsin State standards and benchmarks by maintaining communication with the student’s community educational staff (school staff).
  • Keep accurate, complete and correct educational records by preparing individualized treatment plans for discharge planning including progress toward standards, student’s individualized educational program description, strengths, weakness, classroom behavior and recommendations for their next level of care.
  • Able to effectively interface with community educational staff (school staff) to obtain and assist with homework for students.
  • Able to assist with recommendations for IEP or any other educational accommodations provided by the school district to support the student in their academic endeavors while managing their mental health.
  • Structure the assigned classroom environment so that it is conductive to learning and is appropriate to the maturity and interest of the students.
  • Develop a schedule/routine for students.
  • Develop appropriate classroom expectations for behavior and conduct.
  • Assist Unit and hospital staff with the care and routines of students outside of class time when needed in order to support excellent patient care (documentation, organizing groups, serving meals, etc.)

Other Functions:

  • Will, at times, provide support to the Inpatient treatment unit for unit activities, transitions, or group functions. During these times the Teacher will support safe patient behavior and will monitor patients/students for safety and adherence to inpatient treatment rules of conduct. 
  • Encourage all students to set and maintain appropriate behaviors.
  • Follow assigned behavior plan or behavioral interventions as determined by the treatment team or supervisor.
  • Adheres to policies and procedures.
  • Relates complete and pertinent information in verbal and written communication.
  • Initiates and maintains open and effective communication with the teaching staff, physicians, the multidisciplinary team members and other department associates.
  • Demonstrates knowledge of new/revised hospital, and department policies.
  • Demonstrates appropriate communication skills by sharing, clarifying, reflecting and interpreting.
  • Demonstrates Understanding of Patient Rights and Delivers Care in Accordance With Policies and Procedures
  • Other duties as needed for patient care and safety

Qualifications

Education: A Bachelor’s Degree in Education or Special Education is required. Master’s Degree in Education or Special Education is preferred.

Experience: Must be able to teach Middle through High School aged students in core subject areas; Math, Language Arts, Social Studies, Science and Health.
