Assistant Direct Services Manager
Housing Matters partners with individuals and families to create pathways out of their homelessness into permanent housing. The Assistant Direct Services Manager is responsible for supporting all elements of direct services care during work shifts and assisting the Direct Services Manager in the coordination and supervision of Direct Services Coordinators. The ideal candidate for this position will be a hands-on leader who is comfortable with changing workflows.
Hours and Benefits
● The Assistant Direct Services Manager is a full-time, salaried exempt position, eligible for medical, dental, vision, 403b, and our generous PTO plan.
● Regularly scheduled shifts: Regular shifts are evenings and weekends.

Preferred Experience/ Education Requirements
● High school diploma or equivalent with 3 or more years experience in a behavioral health environment required; OR associate degree in a human service field with two or more years experience in a behavioral health environment required.
● EMT certification preferred
● Two or more years experience working with people and families experiencing homelessness preferred
● 1 year of supervisory experience preferred
Special Requirements
● CPR and De-escalation training required
● First aid may be required based on state or facility requirements
Thorough knowledge of:
Barriers to housing for people and families experiencing homelessness
De-escalation and communication skills
Basic knowledge of the principles of supervision
Trauma-informed care
Google suite, including email, calendar, Google Sheets and Google docs
Typical Job Duties:
Assist the Direct Services Manager (DSM) with campus schedule, monitoring shift change activities to assign staff, review staffing, and adjust as necessary.
Monitor day services operations including the hygiene bay (mobile unit showers, sinks, hygiene products, etc), phone charging station, the nook, the waiting area, mail services, etc.
Write, review, and monitor Incident Reports.
Acts as Manager on Duty during weekends and evenings; utilizes critical thinking skills to make decisions and maintain a safe environment for staff and shelter guests.
Support DSCs with direct services work, including cleaning the hygiene bay and dining area, doing regular campus rounds, assisting with intakes and heat treatment, meal prep, washing towels, etc.
Support shelter and day services guests with general resources, problem-solving, and pathways to housing.
Train and mentor Direct Services Coordinators during the shift as necessary, or as assigned by the Direct Services Manager.
Report pertinent information to the Direct Services Manager promptly.
Support shelter services, program staff, and the facilities team as necessary.
Provide backup if DSC staffing is not available.
Utilize de-escalation and trauma-informed care skills as necessary to situations that arise. Respond appropriately and promptly to emergencies and crises; act as a leader in the absence of the Direct Services Manager.
Demonstrate a positive, empathetic, and professional attitude towards shelter and day services guests. When guest needs are not met, acknowledge and work to resolve complaints. Recognize that guest safety is a top priority.
