Purpose

The role of Communications Director is to multiply transformed followers of Jesus by leading communication efforts of Chapel Pointe in the context of a high relational collaboration and accountability. This role requires a firm grasp of the beliefs, values and strategy of Chapel Pointe and the ability to align volunteer and key leadership teams with its vision. This person is part originator and part implementer. They can also create something out of nothing and push existing designs, words, and experiences to be better. The Communication Director will foster buy-in and collaboration from the teams within Chapel Pointe through communication efforts. This person must be skilled at, and experienced in, creative communication--whether that be in marketing, sales, advertising, publishing, event promotion, social media, or public relations. 

Role Summary

Position is responsible for and focused on leadership and team development, oversight and execution of all aspects of Communications and Marketing outlined below:

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES

Strategic Leadership 

  • Develop and execute the communication strategy for Chapel Pointe vision, guided by core values with the outcome being to help people engage in worship, connect in a small group, and serve on a team
  • Develop and multiply leaders within the communication department.
  • Enlist, equip and encourage qualified volunteer teams and interns to accomplish communications goals.
  • Be a catalyst for the pull through and execution of ideas through communication strategy. 
  • Translate vision, ministry and programmatic strategies into communication plans, messages, and materials to inform and engage with church audiences across multiple media and platforms. 
  • Set a standard for the maturation and use of the Chapel Pointe brand.
  • Create strategies and systems for the timing and nature of information communicated as well as monitor execution of communication to ensure quality, consistency, accuracy, and effectiveness. 
  • Be the team leader for staff and vendors who are responsible for various content and communication creation.
  • Recruit, train and develop volunteer staff for all areas of communication including but not limited to social media, video, print, website, and external advertising.
  • Direct and assist in the creation of the words, graphics, and experiences that are engaging and on-brand. 
  • Be an engaged, positive, and collaborative part of the Chapel Pointe team.

Promotions

  • Proactively develop strategies to clarify and communicate the weekly messaging of the church, in partnership with leadership and ministry leaders.
  • Work in tandem with the CP leadership and team to create consistency in messaging.
  • Develop a system to organize, prioritize and communicate promotional items related to CP.
  • Oversee all print and digital materials related to promotions, ensuring they are executed with excellence.

Digital Communication & Social Media

  • Lead all efforts related to the creation, strategy, and execution of Chapel Pointe digital communication channels including the website.
  • Oversee the strategy and execution of the weekly Live Stream.
  • Creatively build followings on various social media outlets including but not limited to, Facebook, Twitter and Instagram.
  • Oversee social media messaging and communication strategies, in coordination with the communications team.
  • Lead messaging and strategy for social media advertising campaigns.
  • Lead efforts to keep the website up to date and current in its functionality

Design & Brand Management

  • Lead efforts to design all art and promotional materials related to church-wide activities with a high standard of creativity, excellence and effectiveness.
  • Network with staff team, contract and volunteer artists to develop graphic designs.
  • Monitor the look, vibe and feel of all promotional materials representing CP.
  • Police the use of logos and images that represent CP.

Media Relations

  • Create positive relationships with local and national media when needed.
  • Oversee efforts related to securing or responding to media attention.
  • Develop policy and procedures related to media relations and emergency communication.

  • Proven ability to take projects from beginning to end.
  • Action-oriented and displays focus, passion and initiative.
  • Organized, creative thinker and highly productive, working in a fast-paced environment.

Professional Qualifications

  • Degree in communications, media, or related field
  • 3-4 years experience in communications, ministry related a plus
  • Proficient in Creative Suite programs, such as Photoshop, InDesign, and Illustrator.
  • Excellent written and oral communication skills.
