Description

Director of Workforce Development

$60,000 - $67,000

Workforce Development Division

The Workforce Development division at the Buffalo Urban League seeks to create avenues for economic empowerment through educational attainment, intentional programming, skills and career readiness training, mentorship, and employment outreach services. Youth and young adults ages 14-24 have access to paid work experience opportunities with local businesses, skilled trade apprenticeships and training programs with our community partners. The Buffalo Urban League is steadfast in our commitment to support our community through the creation of a diverse workforce, dismantle generational poverty, and forge access pathways to self-reliance.

Position Description

Responsible for overseeing the planning, development, implementation and evaluation of the organization’s employment programing, grant operations and reporting. The Director of Workforce will produce outcomes that directly correlate to the employability of participants and ensure the achievement of deliverables such as career counseling, job readiness, job placement services, and the understanding fiscal responsibility and independence. The Director will work closely with the leadership team to ensure the success of all programs and alignment with the organization’s mission, vision, strategies, and goals.

General Duties:

  • Provide oversight over all workforce development grant funded programs.
  • Establish processes for comprehensive effective budget management.
  • Ensure that reporting deadlines are met, and deliverables are achieved with a standard of excellence.
  • Strategic planning, program development, forward thinking, innovative ideas as it related to programming and services for the community.
  • Grant management and fiscal responsibility of multiple funding streams.
  • Supervise workforce development staff ensuring the organization’s mission, strategies, program goals, quality improvement processes are implemented and executed.
  • Identify, plan, implement and support training and development opportunities for workforce development programming, volunteers, and staff.
  • Develop relationships and collaborative partnerships with federal, state, and local agencies and officials, business community, education, social service agencies, civic groups, faith and community partners and stakeholders to further the organization’s ability to achieve goals and improve the education and employment outcomes, and impact on the economic and social vitality of individuals and families.
  • Represent the organization internally and externally as an “expert/ go to” on workforce development.

Specific Duties:

  • Supervise and evaluate Employment Coordinators to ensure effective collaborative seamless transitions between program services, wraparound services, technical training, and career pathways.
  • Develop and oversee the implementation of programs that respond to the needs of participants.
  • Compile monthly program reports reflecting all activities, attendance, and participation outcomes.
  • Develop and implement an annual program planning process, including annual program evaluation and objective attainment strategies and goals.
  • Build a network of partners who can provide knowledge, skills development, and experiential learning opportunities for participants to help them prepare for, secure, and retain employment opportunities.
  • Coordinate and monitor daily activities and quality of work to ensure goal attainment.
  • Represent the organization as a leader in education and employment policies and programs.

Qualifications


Required:

  • Bachelor's degree from an accredited college or university, with 3- 5 years of experience in workforce development.
  • Supervisory experience.
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, PowerPoint) and Adobe Reader.
  • Nonprofit experience working with under-resourced, under-served, marginalized populations.
  • Excellent communication skills: interpersonal, written, verbal and presentation.
  • Strong documentation, records retention, and outreach coordination skills. 
  • Valid Driver’s License, Insurance, and daily access to a vehicle.
  • Ability to work flexible hours with required weekends.

Preferred:

  • Master’s degree from an accredited college or university, with 4-7 years of experience in workforce development.
  • Nonprofit leadership, grant reporting, and renewal experience.
  • Budget construction and management oversight.
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, PowerPoint) and Adobe Reader.
  • Experience working with under-resourced, under-served and marginalized populations.
  • Excellent communication skills: interpersonal, written, verbal, and presentation.
  • Strong documentation, records retention, and outreach coordination skills. 
  • Valid Driver’s License, Insurance and daily access to a vehicle.
  • Ability to work flexible hours with occasional weekends.
