Robert C. Byrd Clinic is Hiring a Peer Recovery Support Specialist Near Lewisburg, WV

The Robert C. Byrd Clinic, on the campus of the West Virginia School of Osteopathic Medicine, is seeking a full-time Peer Recovery Support Specialist and Case Manager.

Position Purpose:

Provide peer support services to individuals recovering from substance use disorders. Through lived experience and specialized training, offer guidance, encouragement, and practical assistance to promote sustained recovery. Working within a collaborative team environment, foster a supportive community and empower individuals to navigate the challenges of recovery successfully. Additionally, this role will fulfill the duties of Case Manager, coordinating resources and advocating for client’s comprehensive care needs.

Job Responsibilities:

  • Provide peer support to individuals in recovery, offering empathy, understanding, and encouragement based on personal experience.
  • Collaborate with clients to develop personalized recovery plans, setting achievable goals and milestones.
  • Provide outreach to vulnerable populations where they are.
  • Advocate for clients within the healthcare system and community to ensure access to necessary resources and support services.
  • Offer education and guidance on recovery strategies, coping skills, and healthy lifestyle choices.
  • Provide crisis intervention and support during challenging times, utilizing active listening and de-escalation techniques.
  • Facilitate support groups and peer-led activities to foster community and connection among individuals in recovery.
  • Maintain accurate and confidential records of client interactions and progress towards recovery goals.
  • Fulfill Case Manager duties, including coordinating resources, conducting needs assessments, and developing comprehensive care plans that prioritize safety, timeliness, effectiveness, efficiency, equity, and patient-centeredness. This includes:
    • Scheduling and conducting visit check-ins.
    • Performing screening and case intake processes.
    • Conducting assessments and evaluations.
    • Evaluating risks.
    • Crafting recovery plans and establishing achievable goals.
    • Implementing the devised plans effectively.
    • Monitoring and reviewing progress regularly.
    • Evaluating outcomes to ensure effectiveness and adjust strategies as needed.
  • Work collaboratively with healthcare professionals, social workers, and community organizations to coordinate care and support services.
  • Participate in ongoing training and professional development opportunities to enhance knowledge and skills in peer support and recovery advocacy.
  • Engage in community outreach activities to raise awareness about recovery resources and reduce stigma associated with substance use disorders and mental health challenges.
  • Other duties as assigned.

Requirements:

  • High school diploma or equivalent required.
  • Personal experience with substance use disorder and a minimum of two years (24 months) of sustained recovery is required.
  • Completion of a recognized peer support specialist training program.
  • West Virginia Certification Board for Addiction and Prevention Professionals (WVCBAPP) Peer Recovery (PRSS) Certification or ability to obtain within a reasonable timeframe.
  • Excellent computer skills including Microsoft Excel, Word, Teams, and ability to learn REDCap.
  • Experience using electronic health records preferred.
  • Demonstrated ability to provide compassionate and nonjudgmental support to individuals in challenging circumstances.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to establish rapport and build trusting relationships.
  • Capacity to work collaboratively within a multidisciplinary team environment, respecting diverse perspectives and contributions.
  • Commitment to empowering individuals in recovery to make informed decisions and take ownership of their recovery journey.
  • Adherence to ethical standards, including confidentiality, boundaries, and professional conduct.
