Project Renewal is a leading non-profit organization with the mission of ending the cycle of homelessness by empowering individuals and families to renew their lives with health, homes, and jobs. Our comprehensive and integrated 24/7 programs are designed to offer the holistic care our clients need. With a staff of 950 and an annual budget of $120 million, Project Renewal is one of the larger social service non-profits in New York City. As Project Renewal continues to grow, so does its Development department and fundraising responsibilities in support of the organization’s critical work.

Salary: $65,000 - $80,000
Position Overview:
Reporting to the Director of Institutional Giving and under the direction of the Chief Development Officer, the Grants Officer is responsible for supporting Project Renewal’s institutional fundraising goals. The Grants Officer will write and submit multidisciplinary grant proposals and funding reports—ranging in size, scope, and complexity—to a wide array of foundation, corporate, and other funding agencies and organizations. The Grants Officer will also assist with grants tracking and management, acknowledgement letters, database management, funder research, and other administrative tasks.
This position will be assigned a portfolio of grant proposals and reports in alignment with the organization’s annual development plan and the Grants Calendar. The Grants Officer will collaborate with the Director of Institutional Giving, larger Development Team, and senior leadership to develop strongly positioned funding requests that can be marketed effectively and align with Project Renewal’s priority investment areas. All work is to be completed with standard supervision, confidentiality, integrity, and good judgment in accordance with organization standards.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities: The essential duties of the Grants Officer include but are not limited to the following activities:
  • Writing high-quality, persuasive grant proposals and reports for institutional funders
  • Developing grant budgets in concert with Director of Institutional Giving, program staff, and/or finance team
  • Building strong working relationships with appropriate program staff
  • Maintaining comprehensive and current Raiser’s Edge profiles for institutional organizations
  • Updating Grants Calendar and other team performance tracking mechanisms
  • Researching and identifying new funding sources; assisting with donor stewardship and site visits
  • Coordinating administrative responsibilities associated with grant funding (e.g., acknowledgement letters, budget coding)
  • Supporting other Development and communications projects as needed
Qualifications:
  • Minimum bachelor’s degree
  • 2 years of experience writing substantive grant proposals, grant reports, communications, or other similar materials, preferably for a large size social services nonprofit
  • Strong and demonstrated knowledge of standard procedures for private and public grant proposal submissions, funder selection criteria, and post-award funder expectations
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills with copy editor-level competency; very strong attention to detail
  • Ability to handle multiple assignments and meet overlapping deadlines while maintaining a professional work style
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills, including budgeting
  • Ability to work collaboratively and independently, both in the office and virtually, including with senior level program leaders
  • Aptitude for efficiently and comprehensively preparing for meetings with internal and external stakeholders, and effectively project managing across multi-disciplinary teams
  • Experience with reporting on and interpreting program data and metrics
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office Suite and Google Docs; familiarity with fundraising databases
