POSITION SUMMARY:
Under the direct supervision of the Aquatics Director, the Assistant Aquatics director is responsible for assisting with planning, organizing, and the supervision of aquatic activities and maintenance of the aquatic facility. The Assistant Aquatics Director assists with the scheduling of lifeguards and other pool personnel, directs aquatic staff in the operation of pool equipment, and regular maintenance duties when necessary in accordance with the JCC aquatic policy and JCC Aquatic Safety Standards & Guidelines.
RESPONSIBILITIES & ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:
Welcomes and interacts with pool patrons in a polite and professional manner. This may include answering questions, addressing concerns, and/or resolving disputes.
Supervises all aquatic staff to include lifeguards, swim instructors, swim coaches, and aerobics instructors.
Assists with organizing swim classes, assigning instructors, and scheduling appropriate lifeguards to ensure public safety.
Ensures that the facility and operations are in compliance with New York State Dept. of Health Sanitary Code, subpart 6-1 for Swimming Pools, specifically as it pertains to operating, supervision and maintenance.
Substitute lifeguard/instructor when needed.
Submits purchase requests for needed aquatic supplies.
Assists in hiring, evaluations, and training of aquatic staff.
Provides constant feedback to staff to facilitate improvements.
Maintains accurate records as required by the JCC.
Observes activities with safety rules in the pool area and follows preventative lifeguarding measures in the safety of each individual.
Ensures the health and safety of all members and participants by knowing, understanding, and consistently enforcing safety rules, policies, procedures, and regulations for the pool and aquatic area.
Knows/reviews all emergency procedures and responds to emergency situations immediately in accordance with JCC policies and procedures. Completes related reports as required.
Maintains all required certifications for position while employed.
Exercise good judgment and communicate concerns to your supervisor.
Performs miscellaneous job-related duties as assigned by Aquatics Director.
Promotes all aquatic programs.
Attends and participates in all in-service trainings and staff meetings.
Maintains a professional appearance and demeanor
REQUIRED CERTIFICATIONS:
ARC (or equivalent) CPR/AED for the Professional Rescuer
ARC (or equivalent) Lifeguarding with First Aid
ARC (or equivalent) WSI
Certified Swimming Pool Operator (preferred, but not required)
ARC (or equivalent) LGI (preferred, but not required)
NECESSARY REQUIREMETNS:
Candidate must be age 18 or older.
Candidate must have prior customer service experience.
Candidate must have prior supervisory experience.
Candidate must have at least 2 years lifeguard/WSI experience.
PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS:
Frequently required to stand, sit, walk, climb, swim, and/or balance.
Frequently required to reach with hands and arms.
Frequently required to kneel, crouch, or crawl.
Occasionally lift and/or move 50 pounds.
WORK ENVIRONMENTS:
Frequently exposed to wet and humid conditions.
Frequently exposed to moderate to high noise levels.
Frequently exposed to warm environments.
Occasionally exposed to fumes, airborne, or bloodborne pathogens.
AFTER HIRE REQUIREMENTS:
Aquatics New Hire Orientation before first shift.
