DESCRIPTION OF WORK
In this position, you will provide support to a bridge inspection team leader by assisting with various technical duties related to the inspection of bridges and other structures.
This includes conducting safety inspections on existing bridges, examining structural components such as concrete footings, steel beams, and timber construction, and assessing the condition of bridge features like expansion devices and safety parapets.
You will also be responsible for inspecting bridges for damage, wear, and corrosion, as well as measuring bridge members, recording deterioration, and rating components.
Additionally, you will play a role in preparing detailed inspection reports that document the current condition of bridges and identify any deficiencies.
This will involve compiling information, taking photographs, reviewing sketches, and summarizing the findings of the inspection.
You will also assist in conducting underwater inspections, crane inspections, and deck surveys, as well as maintaining accurate records of inspections using various tools and software systems.
It is important that you have a strong understanding of the Federal Highway Administration (FHWA) coding requirements and are able to maintain the necessary documentation for all state-owned structures.
You will have the opportunity to interact with various stakeholders, including Department staff, federal and local agencies, legislators, and the general public, to ensure effective project administration.
Additionally, you will be responsible for maintaining and organizing inspection equipment and adhering to a two-year inspection cycle.
