POSITION SUMMARY

The Surveillance Shift Supervisor maintains surveillance of properties owned by the Shingle Springs Band of Miwok Indians in order to protect the integrity of Tribal assets and maintain guest and employee welfare. Observes, records, and documents criminal, regulatory, and procedural actions that would adversely affect any aspect of the operation. This position is also responsible for coordinating and supervising the activities of all surveillance employees on assigned shift, in an effort to ensure the protection of employees, guests, and tribal property.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS

  1. Monitors all areas of the property at all times, identifying potential security and/or safety risks and reporting them to the appropriate individual or entity, for proper resolution.
  2. Ensures the quality of operations in the Surveillance Department on assigned shift through the use of training and effectively communication to the operators.
  3. Maintains an expert level of knowledge of all rules and regulations of the Gaming Commission and Gaming Operation policies and procedures. Ensures strict adherence to same throughout the property.
  4. Protects casino assets and gaming integrity, through the consistent, thorough monitoring of all activities on property, particularly on the gaming floor.
  5. Directs the flow of surveillance reports to the proper individuals within the casino, always maintaining the highest level of confidentiality.
  6. Advises surveillance operators on assigned shift of duties and responsibilities, and ensures that they are completed in a timely, efficient manner.
  7. Maintains appropriate staffing levels in the Surveillance Department, by interviewing, selecting, training, scheduling, evaluating, promoting, disciplining and terminating employees, as needed.
  8. Reviews all daily activity reports.
  9. Coordinates, with the Security Department, when surveillance discovers a matter which needs further investigation or attention.
  10. Facilitates the flow of information throughout the department, by attending regularly scheduled departmental meetings.
  11. Observes, documents, and records any unusual or suspicious activities on property.
  12. Reviews surveillance video and reports, providing detailed information to appropriate casino officials and outside agencies, as needed.
  13. Held accountable for the accuracy and thoroughness of departmental records and reports.
  14. Makes suggestions and recommendations, as appropriate, with regard to possible changes in the policies and procedures of other departments, with the protection of casino assets in mind.
  15. Meets regularly with the Surveillance Director to discuss employee, training, or operational issues that affect the overall body of Surveillance.
  16. Directly supervises the activities of all of the surveillance operators on an assigned shift. Answers to the Surveillance Director.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

  1. Must be at least 21 years of age.
  2. High School Diploma or equivalent.
  3. At least two years of experience as a Senior Surveillance Operator with Shingle Springs Band of Miwok Indians or 6 years of surveillance supervisor experience from a gaming/casino setting may be substituted for educational requirement.
  4. Ability to qualify for, obtain and maintain a gaming license issued by the Shingle Springs Tribal Gaming Commission, including pre-employment drug test and criminal background check.
  5. Must possess excellent observational, report writing, and communication skills.
  6. Must be fluent in current cheating methods, card counting techniques, and areas of risk to a casino property.
  7. Must have a working understanding of NIGC MICS and subsequent federal and state gaming law.
  8. Ability to read, analyze, and interpret documents, such as policy and procedure manuals, maintenance instructions, and other related documents.
  9. Ability to write effective reports and memos.
  10. Ability to respond to inquiries from employees or guests.
  11. Ability to communicate effectively in a team setting while facilitating a positive, team-oriented environment.
  12. Ability to add, subtract, multiply, and divide in all units of measure, using whole numbers, common fractions, and decimals.
  13. Ability to compute rate, ratio and percent, and to interpret data from graphs and reports generated by Casino Operations software program.
  14. Ability to apply common sense reasoning to variety of situations.
  15. Must qualify for and maintain a valid gaming license issued by the Shingle Springs Tribal Gaming Commission.
  16. Must enter into a confidentiality agreement with the Tribe and Gaming Commission and entered into a non-gaming and conflict of interest agreement with the Gaming Commission.
  17. Other duties as assigned.

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS

  1. Knowledge of and experience with closed circuit television equipment preferred.
  2. Bachelor’s degree in criminal justice or related area from a four-year college or university preferred.

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS

  1. While performing the duties of this position, the employee is required to sit for long periods of time. The employee is required to type, answer phones, and operate computer and surveillance equipment using their hands.
  2. Specific vision requirements of this job include close, distance, color, peripheral, depth perception, and the ability to adjust focus.
  3. The physical demands described represent those duties an employee must meet in order to perform the essential functions of a Surveillance Operator. Reasonable accommodations may be made to enable individuals with disabilities to perform the essential job functions.

NATIVE PREFERENCE

Preference in hiring is given to either the most qualified applicant or a Native American candidate who meets the minimum qualifications. When two (2) or more Native American candidates have comparable qualifications, the following order of preference shall apply: (1) Members of Shingle Springs Band of Miwok Indians; (2) Spouses or domestic partners (certified through Tribal Court) of members of Shingle Springs Band of Miwok Indians; (3) Parents of children of the Shingle Springs Band of Miwok Indians; (4) All other documented Native Americans; (5) All other applicants in accordance with Title 25, U.S. Code, Section 472 and 473. Applicants claiming Native preference must submit verification of Indian eligibility.
