A leading tribally owned construction company is seeking a dynamic and experienced Vice President of Operations to oversee the implementation of the company s strategy and mission, ensuring the smooth execution of day-to-day operations across multiple states. This pivotal role demands a strategic thinker with a proven ability to lead complex construction projects, emphasizing timely project completion, rigorous cost controls, and robust safety plans. The Vice President of Operations will work closely with human resources, finance and accounting, and executive leadership to create a cohesive and efficient operational framework that supports the company's objectives. The ideal candidate will liaise with business partners to ensure that company standards are not only met but exceeded, demonstrating an unwavering commitment to excellence, innovation, and operational integrity. DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

  1. Provide strategic leadership for the Quivera Construction business unit, ensuring financial accountability, successful project delivery, and maintaining brand integrity.
  2. Champion and promote the Southwind mission, core values, and culture among all employees and clients.
  3. Guarantee timely project completion within budget limits, manage capital budgets, and enhance interdepartmental communication.
  4. Lead, mentor, and manage a high-performing team, overseeing recruitment, coaching, and performance reviews.
  5. Liaise with Executive Management and Legal Counsel as needed, managing contract negotiations, and enforcing milestone deadlines and obligations.
  6. Develop overall development budgets with the Executive team and present them for senior leadership approval.
  7. Collaborate with staff and the proposal management team to maximize the chances of proposal success.
  8. Participate in contract and subcontract negotiations as required and attend all contract dispute meetings.
  9. Foster collaboration, proactive communication, and positive relationships among corporate staff.
  10. Facilitate weekly and monthly project progress reports to share with the executive team.
  11. Arrange meetings, as needed, with both office and field personnel to ensure comprehensive communication and awareness regarding relevant issues and concerns.
  12. Represent the company in industry associations, public meetings, and community events to build relationships and enhance the company s reputation and market presence.
  13. Monitor project progress, adapt plans as necessary, and communicate with stakeholders to manage expectations and maintain project viability.
  14. Coordinate with project managers to ensure timely completion of projects, addressing any delays or issues that arise during the construction process.
  15. Facilitate communication between various stakeholders to maintain positive relationships and ensure project alignment with customer needs and expectations.
  16. Participate in the hiring process of Project Managers, Superintendents, and other staff as assigned.
  17. Provides overall operational support to assist the Company President/CEO in management and growth strategies.
  18. Oversee and participate in proposal and bid negotiations.
  19. Travel for meetings as required.
  20. Other duties as assigned by an Executive.

REQUIRED SKILLS AND ABILITIES

  • Computer knowledge and efficiency, including Microsoft Office products.
  • Knowledge of Procore and MS Office Suite, or ability to learn and implement within 30 days of hire.
  • Knowledge of federal and non-federal construction.
  • Ability to clearly articulate a vision and garner consensus from key stakeholders company wide.
  • Skilled in cultivating and sustaining client connections.
  • Possess keen analytical skills and a meticulous eye for detail.

EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE

  • Bachelor s degree in engineering, construction management, business, or other related field and/or 10 years experience in a similar management-level position.
  • 10 years experience managing teams of 20 or more, including subcontractors.
  • 5 years experience in progressively responsible positions with a strong emphasis on government and/or contract management.
  • Previous project management experience preferred.
  • Proven planning and problem-solving skills.
  • Experience in Department of Defense (DoD) construction projects is desirable.
  • Prior background in construction management or related professional services sector is advantageous.
  • Management experience in an 8(a)-organization preferred.
  • Robust project management, project controls, contract management, negotiations, planning, budget development, quality control, health & safety, and strategic planning experience.
  • Experience with multiple contracting methods including firm fixed price, time & materials, best value, lowest price technically acceptable, cost plus, negotiated, etc.
  • Strong oral and written communication skills.
  • Ability to travel and interact successfully with a geographically dispersed team.
  • Critical decision-making and problem-solving skills.
  • Strong understanding of business functions such as Operations, Finance, Marketing, etc.
  • Strong teamwork and team leadership skills; cooperative working style.
  • High level of integrity and dependability.

WORK ENVIRONMENT

The role of Vice President of Construction requires varying degrees of physical activity, primarily during on-site visits to construction projects. While in the office, the demands are primarily sedentary, involving extended periods of sitting, computer work, and meetings. However, during field visits, the VP of Construction may be required to navigate construction sites, which can involve walking, climbing stairs, and exposure to outdoor environments. Additionally, the job may entail lifting and carrying of light to moderate objects, such as equipment or documents. While efforts are made to ensure safety and minimize physical strain, individuals in this role should be capable of meeting these physical demands and should adhere to relevant safety protocols and guidelines.
