Cope Family Center is Hiring a Development and Communications Manager Near Napa, CA

Company Description

Cope Family Center, a 501(c)3 non-profit agency located in Napa, helps parents manage stressful situations and challenging life events so they can give their children a brighter future. Our mission is to empower parents, nurture children and strengthen communities. We prevent child abuse and support families through research- and evidence-based programs. Cope’s current budget is $2.6 million (Fiscal Year 2023.2024) with 25 full and part-time staff, a 10-member board, and nearly 100 active volunteers. Cope is guided by its values and is committed to diversity, equity, and inclusion (DEI), and distributed leadership, in order to promote a participatory, team-based, inclusive, and leaderful culture within the organization. The organization’s strategic plan is utilized to examine and seize opportunities for refining and expanding its programming in alignment with current community needs. Cope’s 52 years of service to the Napa community is a testament to the sustainability of the organization. 

Job Description

The Development and Communications Manager (DCM) provides daily management for Cope’s development and communications activities. Works in collaboration with the Development team to develop and execute strategies to raise public awareness of Cope, elevate brand identity, and engage support needed to sustain the organization. The DCM will manage the development department’s donor engagement, annual appeal, major gifts, and other events. This position supervises and provides direction to the department’s support staff.

As a member of the Leadership Team (LT), the DCM participates in the development and implementation of organization-wide policies and programs that contribute to overall agency success.

PRIMARY RESPONSIBILITIES

Leadership

  • Serve on the Cope’s Leadership Team to collaboratively develop strategic priorities to implement and maintain Cope’s long-range goals, strategies, plans and policies, keeping in mind the organization’s commitment to its mission, values, distributed leadership model, and Diversity, Equity and Inclusion (DEI), in order to foster growth and sustainability.
  • Promote an organizational culture that fosters collaboration, transparency, open and frequent communication, teamwork, and a common organizational vision.
  • Provide leadership, management, and mentoring to department support staff.
  • Cultivate a culture of philanthropy where everyone at Cope has a role in engaging the community in supporting Cope’s work.

Fund Development

  • Work in collaboration with the Development team to create and execute a comprehensive annual Fund Development plan.
  • Manage fundraising campaign strategy and content development.
  • Plan, design, and execute all Development events.
  • Stay up to date on evolving fund development trends and best practices.

Fiscal Management

  • Work with Development Director to create annual program budget.
  • Manage and maintain department’s budget.
  • Approve, review and code department expenditures.

Marketing and Communications

  • Collaborate with the Development Director to develop, plan, and implement a strategic annual Communications plan that supports Cope’s strategies and objectives, builds relationships with key audiences, and engages the community in the organization’s work.
  • Create marketing campaigns across multiple channels, ensuring consistency of content, brand identity, voice, and tone of all communications.
  • Manage all digital media, including website, email marketing, media and story library, and social media.
  • Create, design, and produce print media in alignment with the organization’s brand, including, but not limited to, presentations, brochures, flyers, invitations, posters, banners, and other marketing and fundraising publications.
  • Manage press and media relations.
  • Manage community engagement efforts, including outreach and volunteer programs.
  • Present the organization to the public in various ways, as requested; may include interviewing, conducting tours, and giving presentations.
  • Stay up to date on new marketing and communications technologies, trends, and ideas.

Staff Supervision

  • Supervise, create, and maintain a learning environment through reflective supervision and performance coaching.
  • Hire, supervise, train, and evaluate department’s support staff.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in business, nonprofit development, marketing, communications, social work, or another human services-related field strongly preferred.
  • Minimum four (4) years’ experience in development.
  • Minimum two (2) years’ experience in marketing/communications, event management, and volunteer management
  • Proven ability to manage staff/a team and help foster their development to reach professional goals.
  • Proven skill in Adobe InDesign and Photoshop.
  • Experience in web content management systems, some knowledge of HTML preferred.
  • PC/Windows literate with proven ability in Word, Excel, relational database software and presentation applications.
  • Experience with Salesforce for Nonprofits strongly preferred, other donor management software acceptable.
  • Experience managing professional/business social media accounts required.
  • Ability to complete projects independently with a great deal of self-reliance and the drive to excel.
  • Ability to manage multiple tasks and maintain a high degree of accuracy.
  • Ability to recognize one’s strengths and weaknesses and engage in ongoing development.
  • Must be aligned with organizational values and distributed leadership.
  • Must be aligned with Cope’s commitment to DEI.
  • Available to work irregular hours, including weekends, and as necessary for after-hours events and meetings.
  • Occasional work on weekends and evenings required.
  • Valid California Driver’s License and own mode of transportation.
  • Must pass DOJ and FBI fingerprinting and background check.
  • Other tasks as assigned.
