BlueHub Capital is Hiring a Manager of Strategic Initiatives Near Boston, MA

BlueHub Capital is seeking a Manager of Strategic Initiatives to support and advance the strategic projects of the BlueHub Loan Fund, a nonprofit, mission-focused community development financial institution with a national lending footprint and diverse borrowers across the housing, health, education and community facilities sectors. This is a great opportunity for a candidate with exceptional project management skills to develop leadership capacity in the community development field.

The selected candidate will work with Loan Fund leadership to implement strategic projects to achieve our goals and grow our capacity, in a manner that aligns with our mission and values. They will support the effectiveness, efficiency and impact of the Loan Fund by: supporting the development of strategy through research and coordination; managing cross-cutting projects such as funding proposals and reporting requests; facilitating training and development opportunities for the team; and optimizing our policies, processes and systems. They will bring to the position demonstrated experience managing complex projects or initiatives, commitment to the resiliency of low-income communities, and ideally experience in one or more areas of community development.

This position will report to the Loan Fund President and collaborate with the Loan Fund team and BlueHub’s core team to support and grow our agility, efficiency, effectiveness and impact. This is a hybrid position; this person will be required to work from our main office in the Roxbury neighborhood of Boston at three days per week, with the option to work remotely the other two days.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

Responsibilities include, but will not be limited to:

  • In collaboration with BlueHub Capital’s core teams (specifically, the Communications, Compliance and Investor Relations teams), coordinate inputs and obtain President’s sign-off for Loan Fund’s preparation and submission of grant applications, funding proposals, quarterly and annual reports to investors and the Board, audit engagements, and CDFI compliance requirements. 
  • Conduct research as requested by Loan Fund president on current policy matters or market trends that could inform Loan Fund’s growth trajectory and opportunities for innovation. In support of strategic initiatives developed, help to hone business priorities, advise on resource requirements and develop roadmaps for strategic execution.
  • Develop draft communications such as remarks, presentations and correspondence to stakeholders as needed to support President’s leadership and relationship management needs.
  • Help to identify, contract with and manage consultants engaged to provide subject matter expertise or to leverage our capacity, and ensure responsiveness and agility during periods of high volume. Develop system to manage Loan Fund vendor and consultant relationships.
  • Work with lending staff and consultants to update and maintain BlueHub’s credit and closing policies and practices to position us for growth aligned with our values and goals.
  • Work with BlueHub’s IT team to help develop and deploy IT systems in ways that best support our strategic objectives. Identify ways to implement technology to maximize Loan Fund team’s efficiency, agility and impact.
  • Support leadership of certain team meetings in a manner that supports Loan Fund objectives, including strategic agendas and follow-through, modeling best-in-class meeting management and highly effective, efficient, project management.
  • Work with Chief Administrative Officer to develop a bespoke and comprehensive training program to grow our team’s capacity and support our professional development. Coordinate with Admin team for payment of professional development opportunities and logistics involved with relevant travel for team members.
  • In partnership with BlueHub Capital leadership, identify ways to keep a hybrid team connected and productive by helping to develop and promote new ways of working including use of relevant technology. Support Loan Fund President in planning Loan Fund retreats and opportunities to connect to each other and BlueHub’s mission; coordinate with BlueHub’s Administrative team for support of travel and lodging logistics.
  • Other duties as assigned.

Qualification and Skills:

  • Bachelor’s degree expected; advanced degree in Finance, Real Estate, or a related field, or comparable knowledge/skill gained via experience is preferred.
  • At least 3 years of experience in leading and managing complex, multi-stakeholder projects. Experience in some or all of the following areas is valuable but not imperative: (1) affordable housing development and/or finance; (2) community facilities development and/or finance; (3) energy efficiency and climate resiliency.
  • Able to build and maintain effective relationships with internal and external stakeholders.
  • Able to influence others, create alignment, generate commitment to goals and inspire others to action.
  • Able to work with a high degree of initiative, discretion and tact.
  • Self-motivated with extraordinary organizational and project management skills.
  • Excellent quantitative and qualitative analytical and negotiating skills.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
  • Able to work independently and as part of a team.
  • Commitment to the mission and goals of BlueHub Capital.
